Yep it would do fortifications. Anything else it should have?
My thoughts are (in addition to the normal map):
Map ranges
Pcs - type, fortifications, Loy?,Name, owner
Army - start location - troops?
?s are ones I don't think are feasible but useful. Maybe a list by the
side for the armies? Also unlikely but a possibility.
I'd be opposed to anything on the map that doesn't last past turn 1.
PCs, fortifications and map ranges are all mostly fixed (location even
more so than size). Army location and troops are meaningless after turn
1. Same with loyalty.

Personally I would like nation boundaries. To people like me who are
newbies in 1650 it is nice to have a map showing just where everyone
start, and the approx reach of their nations.
You have a fundamental misunderstanding. There aren't any nation
boundaries. Think of isolated camps, fortresses, and the odd city-state
surviving in a generally free for all wilderness. Some "tribal
affiliations" - because that is actually a better description than
"nations" have their holdings very spread out - the dwarves for example
are right across the Northern half of the map. Some nations such as
Sinda/Woo in 1650, Duns/WWi in 2950 and the Mordor DS in both scenarios,
have their pop centres completely intermingled.

Thanks for the information

RD: Loyalty is unnecessary. We all know cities start with 100, MTs 75 etc.
We don't want unnecessary info as it would make the map too cluttered.
Army/navy icons would be good. How would you do troop numbers, bearing in
mind that some nations have more than one possible military set-up
(Witch-king & Eothraim to name but two)?
Army lists by the side would be good, but would need to show all the
alternatives.
