g29; War of the Rings Variant

It is with a heavy heart that on t35 the Freeps finally have to
declare their unconditional surrender!
With the DS winning in almost every aspect of the game we are left
with no alternative. The last five turns have been spent harassing
the darks at home in mordor and hunting the One Ring. But, with the
death of Elrond this turn even this slim chance at victory seemed
beyond us, therefore we had no choice but to concede victory to
worthy winners.
The Freeps never recovered from the burden of a quickly despatched
rookie North Gondor and early lack of co-ordination which resulted in
our team-leader [Mark Seward] taking all the DS pressure in South
Gondor. Although we added three of the 5 neutrals [including a
stellar performance from John Stagoll, Dunlendings] we could not hold
back the tide of Dark agents, emmies & eventually armies.
Much kudos to Richard Devereaux for his design of the WotR variant,
which i would recommend to all to try. There has been some discussion
on our side that DS postions in Mordor might be too powerfully
defended and fortified and that their tax base was too great, but
this might have been just the paranoia of a jealous team...
Other reports might appear elsewhere, but i will be glad to open our
yahoo group for public dissection [at least for comedy value if not
to learn anything!] for those interested.
Once again our congratulations,
Free People g29;

About bloomin' time too. You guys die very slowly and painfully. Many thanks for a long and enjoyable game. When it comes to fighting in corner you chaps take the biscuit (School of Mixed Mataphors).

Yup, we had the deaths of all the rest of the Noldo scum scheduled for next turn

WHOA! The crazy market, when it eventually collapsed, gave us two totally unexpected bankruptcies - I lost the FiK position on turn 14 and Richard Devereux lost the DoL position on turn 15. Did you think we dropped those positions just to give you a fighting chance? We were on the verge of eliminating SGo about 12 turns earlier than he was actually eliminated.
