Game 14

At 3124 there was an enormous conflict. Over 6000 Gondorians, mainly Dunadan footmen (HI), but with 400 Dunadan Knights (Cav) took on a mob of 3100 trolls with wooden battle axes and no armour (HI). 3400 of the Gondorians stood and watched the battle while the remaining 2700 attacked using flank against the trolls who stood in standard formation. It seemed the Gondorians knew that they had the beating of these inexperienced trolls and had eyes for taking the mighty city of Minas Ithil after they had slaughtered the foul creatures.

As the forces clashed, however, things suddenly went horribly wrong for the men of the West as a monstrous huge grey dragon named Lamthanc appeared and tore into the Gondorian ranks. The panicked Gondorian generals Tarondor, Elatar and Belechael were shouting new orders to adjust to this terror when things took a further turn for the worse as Lomaw the white ice drake moved out of the line of trolls and engulfed thousands of troops in broad sheets of frost and ice.

The men began to turn and run, led by their cowardly generals, it was to no avail though and not a single soldier escaped, and the Regent Elatar was captured. It appears that Belechael is still missing after the battle. The Nazgul known as Ren the Unclean reported that he is likely hiding under the mounds of bodies.

Over 2700 men of Gondor were killed in the conflict. Only a few trolls were killed, most of them in the initial clashes of the armies, before the rout began.
Tarondor is understood to have watched the battle from a hilltop and then marched his troops West to retreat to Osgiliath. Ren’s army pursued him from the field and is now camped outside Osgiliath, joining other hosts from the Dark Lts and Ice King.

Good Show.

Dark Servants,

Let’s face it. You blew it!
You had, not one, but two dragons at Ithil, and you let 3000 Gondorians escape back to protect Osgiliath. If you had engaged, Osgiliath woulld be open for the DrkLts and IK to take. As it is, the combined armies (and dragons) shall now mutually destroy one another.

Go ahead, celebrate the victory your dragons gave you last turn, but realize it was much, much less than it should have been, and you have no one to blame for that but yourselves.

Oh, and it looks like that very expensive CL army will also meet its end this turn, I hope he didn’t mind paying for it for all these turns.

You know, with the Rhuduar, Easterlings and Dunlendings already attacking the freeps, one would think you guys would have more successes to crow about.

Regent of Northern Gondor

Hmm…3400 more Gondorian HI roasted and toasted and it does seem to me that all those DS armies, and large lizardy friends are still there. Also Tarondor seems to have surrendered himself and handed over lots of shiny toys rather than become dragon food.

Sounds pretty good to me. I wonder how long that little hero’s army will last? 1 second? 2?

And yet, Osgiliath remains free, and the free are winning the game.

“How long will the little hero’s army last?” good question. However, unlike you, we still have all 10 of our starting nations. So, let me pose another, “How long will the DS last.”

Robert/NG

Interesting reply…

  1. Osgiliath won’t be free next turn.
  2. The FP haven’t knocked out any DS nations
  3. The DS will be around till the end of the game…

Hang On there Champ…

Blind Sorcerer is no longer active is the way I got it. Seems the player quit and your Witch-King gutted the nation for his survival.

Cardolan is now defending against three evil buggers:p

Dunlend is just as sneaky as the Rhudaur and will meet the same fate. Just wait until I can safely leave my area.

You wish I was that competent.

The reality of the situation is much simpler.

You may be right, but I said “The FP haven’t knocked out any DS nations”, I didn’t say there were no DS nations out…

And Osgiliath is mighty nice. Thanks for keeping it in good nick.

Yeah, actually, only the Fire King, Witch King, and Ice King remain.

We three kings of Orient are
Bearing gifts we traverse afar
Field and fountain, moor and mountain
Following yonder star

O Star of wonder, star of night
Star with royal beauty bright
Westward leading, still proceeding
Guide us to thy Perfect Light

Born a King on Bethlehem’s plain
Gold I bring to crown Him again
King forever, ceasing never
Over us all to rein

O Star of wonder, star of night
Star with royal beauty bright
Westward leading, still proceeding
Guide us to Thy perfect light

Frankincense to offer have I
Incense owns a Deity nigh
Pray’r and praising, all men raising
Worship Him, God most high

O Star of wonder, star of night
Star with royal beauty bright
Westward leading, still proceeding
Guide us to Thy perfect light

Myrrh is mine, its bitter perfume
Breathes of life of gathering gloom
Sorrowing, sighing, bleeding, dying
Sealed in the stone-cold tomb

O Star of wonder, star of night
Star with royal beauty bright
Westward leading, still proceeding
Guide us to Thy perfect light

Glorious now behold Him arise
King and God and Sacrifice
Alleluia, Alleluia
Earth to heav’n replies

O Star of wonder, star of night
Star with royal beauty bright
Westward leading, still proceeding
Guide us to Thy perfect light

[QUOTE=1000rpm;29221]You may be right, but I said “The FP haven’t knocked out any DS nations”, I didn’t say there were no DS nations out…

Boy, aren’t you clever? That’s almost up to the quality of writing on the Brady Bunch, or Bill Clinton’s “I did not have sex with that woman.”

So then, the DS are losing positions to time alone? What a team!

I was bored and looking for a challenge.

Hi FPs in Game 14

The game has ended on turn 14 with victory for the DS, despite the FPs
having both Corsairs and Harad on their side.
Care to tell us what went so wrong?
Surely not just the Northmen being knocked out?

I’m interested also in how the last few turns worked out for the Free.

Early in the game I was very interested in going Free but only one e-mail prior to turn 1 and no further communication until 5 or 6 really turned the tide for the DS.

Well fought to all and good game. I’m willing to share my PDF’s if interested.

Same applies to me, i.e. interested in what went on to cause the free to drop and willing to swap game info. We thought we had knocked the Northmen out and thinking about it a couple of the other nations hadn’t shown much sign of activity but thought there was a lot of play in it yet. Anyway, interesting game for my 1st DS game.

Cardolan was looking close, as well.

It appears Arthedain was eliminated on the turn prior, as well, judging from my map.

No one from the Free side of 14 can give us a short summary of the last few turns?

Just interested…that’s all.

Hello DS scum, Harad here:)

It was a disappointment to some of us as well that we opted to end the game. I for one have not been a powerhouse before and was looking forward to playing it out.

However, once I joined it was apparent that the communication, coordination and an interest to play were just not there for too many players. There were a few nations that did most of the posting on the team site with very few (if any) replies from the others. Just about every turn there was one or two nations that did not post their turn until several days before the next turn was due. The Northmen going out was just one example of how seeming lack of interest and lack of effective communication had a negative effect on the team.

It was a well fought game from the DS but it was a shame that only the QA got a taste of the storm coming out of the South::smiley:

See you all next time!

Thanks for the reply. Guessing [in hindsight] there were problems from the lack of activity of some nations. We were debating tactics for quite a long game we thought there was ahead of us, with a lot of doubt about who would come out on top. Hence the sudden end caught us all out. Thought we had taken the NM out but weren’t sure.
