Game 225 - War Begins

And so ends the War of the Ring as the final elven ships depart Middle-Earth, Sauron’s minions from Mordor spread forth and rule the world of men.

Nick is a great man and a great player.
You have been great enemies.
The game is turned when the Sinda player hasn’t consigned the turn causing Galadriel’s death.
A very interesting game

I doubt that a single characters death can be so critical. But perhaps it was just the final straw?

Either way, that was a tough game. At about mid-game I was having serious doubts we could bounce back at all. The FP were really keeping the pressure on. Mordor was a train-wreck. Many of the DS nations were down to a frightenly low number of pop centers and characters. And it seemed that half of the DS capitals had been relocated to the southern quarter of the map.

The DS remained steadfast, tho. Congrats to the DS for digging in and turning it all around. Especially David, who stepped up for the final few rounds and oiled the machine.

Gentlemen,

Thank-you for a fine game. I`m not sure we would have played the Freeps so well! I hope to see you all again soon–keep those taunts coming, they make the game more fun.

DENDRA the DIEHARD

Congrats to the FP on a well-played game and a big salute for not dragging it on for months unnecessarily. I think everyone’s judgment that we would have won in the end is correct, although certainly some hard fighting would lay ahead. You are worthy opponents and you certainly gave me more than my share of headaches…

Thanks also to my fine teammates for keeping me in the game early on when I was trouble (some of it self-induced).

Jim (Murazor)

So can we find out who the FP nations/players are?

I’d really like to know. That was one hell of a fight.

Well, I can tell you the Khand Allegiance was played by none other than myself, Russ Floyd. I am happy to hear the FP and DS have at last surrendered to the Empire of KHAND.

Sorry . . . it will be hard to shed the mantle of Ovatharuss. Great game to all and definately my most enjoyable to date. This “winning” thing is new to me. How does it work again?

I wish I could take more credit for this game but I must give most of it to our ally, David Murray / Dog Lord. Without his organization, info tracking, insight, and planning, we would not even be anything resembling a “grudge team”. A lot of the planning was turned over to him in the last 10 turns or so and it turned out to be a pretty damn good idea.

Thanks for all the great taunting, FP, especially Nick. You must have felt lonely out here at times. Is anyone on your side thinking rematch or have they had enough of us?

-Russ Floyd

Here you go; I don’t think they’d mind.

#1 [Processed] MASSIMILIANO POLLA
#3 [Processed] DIEGO CARPINI
#4 [Processed] DAVID EMERY
#5 [Processed] ROBERTO ALIDORI
#6 [Processed] ALESSIO SCARPETTINI
#7 [Processed] DAVID EMERY
#8 [Processed] DUCCIO CANTINI
#9 [Processed] NICHOLAS CODY ]
#10 [Processed] NICHOLAS CODY
#24 [Processed] ALESSANDRO BRANCHI

I’m not sure about a rematch. I’m going to sit on the sidelines for a while, though I could probably be pulled back out onto the field for another ass-whooping. That was the funnest ME game I’ve played.

Nick

Who was #2 and #21. Just curious?

Brian Martin - QA
Steve Koenig - IK
Ben Cook - RE
Adrian Beattie - LR
Matt Ashley - DrgL
Russel Floyd - KE
Ben Min - Lts
Alan Gourlay - BS
Steve Suddell - FK
David Murray - DogL
Fletcher Brown - CL
James Aspinall - WK

Simone (an Italian, I don’t know his last name) played the Corsairs and Roberto played the Northmen until they were so rudely eliminated.

N.

Not rudely, just quickly. It’s not like we didn’t tell you that we were gunning for them from the outset.

Ben, game’s over, you have to be nice now. No, seriously. No smiley face. Ok, just one. No, I take it back. :frowning:

Nick, please give your team our sincere thanks for a great game. Your Dwarf Player sticks out in my mind . . . I don’t think I’ve ever been plagued that much by the Dwarf nation! I usually forget they exist.

Team Lush is slowly organizing for its next game. I’d love to see a rematch but if it’s time for a break I understand. I guess there will be someone else out there waiting to whoop our, er, I mean, get a whooping from us!!

-Russ

Well, defintately a good game guys…three Yahoo Groups and a billion messages later!!

My first run as CL, and it was good times, but a character savy assassination machine I am not. Most admit, you guys almost had me done in a few turns back. I lost alot of emmis in the beginning and my nation was hurting for resources. Would you guys be interested in sharing PDF’s or something of that nature, always fun to see how close, how far you come to things!!

Ohh, and now that Sauron rules, the only thing left to do is knock off that Ovatharuss character and put him in his place…Sauron suffers no equals!!

Fletch - CL

.Sauron suffers no equals!!

  • Bah, He’s jealous of my superiority. I’ll crush him beneath my heel now that the DS and FP are behind me.

-Ovatharuss
Dark Lord of Middle-Earth

It’s over…

Congratulations to the DS team!

You played very well and, like any time I play outside of Italy, I learned a lot.

A question: how does the buy-out works??? Is it a 2950 prerogative? I tried it in Italy, in 1650, but it didn’t work…

You just have to make sure that everybody on the team buys enough product to empty the market. That’s pretty much it.

  • Ben
    Dark Lts.

Also, it is difficult [though not impossible] to stop or “spike” it if you are playing the Free Peoples. We did not always have buyout success, however Matt Ashley, then Jim Aspinall both did a stellar job to ensure we mostly has successful buyouts to fund our new MT`s/Characters etc.

Yep, Hats of to Matt and Jim for making us the capitalists we are! THANK YOU!

-Russ

cheers to the freeps for a good game, hope to see u all on the battlefield again some time.

To my fellow DS well played guys.

cheers

Yes, thanks to the Free for a nice game. I chose the Rhun so that I’d be in the action in a challenging position, and I’m glad I did. I look forward to playing with/against you all again.
