Game 38

Ga

I was 5/9

I will post more

What a fun game. !

Rhu played liked a beast and drove me crazy.

Early game 0-5

I was pressed hard by the combined efforts of Witch King and Rhu—Rhu ended up buring 4 towns and all I could do was defend.
I responded with some Rhu capital challenges and assassinations T4, 7, 10
I also was lucky and got ROW on turn 4 it was in hand.

Mid game–6-11

t7 2614–i encounter small Dragon force lead by celedhring–i win
t8–i decide to disband army since i’ve stripped celedhring and have his nuetral mage arty and big boy combat arty
t8–also kill commander at 2908
t9-burn 2214 camp
t10–killl CL agent at 2008 AND Challenge two characters of Rhu
t11–burn 2809–kill dragon mage–take agent 20+ evil arty
t11-attack army at Dog capital–get captured

late game–so sad they end early now
T-12-16

by this time ive burned out on the walls of 1910 twice
sent a lot of **** to NG
t 11–burn 2215 camp
t12 burn 2211 camp
t12 1910–challenge back up and drop castle to fort—damn it
t 13–fail on 1910 walls second time
t14-burn 2116 camp
t14–kill Dog emmy at 3316
t15–escape by skin of teeth at Drl cap–capture agent
t16–burn 1910

t16–recovering +15 mage arty
t16 curse squad 85% done

game ends

Clint here (player). I was the 12/21 combination. Decent start and took a lot of pressure from NG, NM, Wood/Dwa, Sindar and Duns when I took a few NG pcs. Got decent agents and was doing some nice damage to NM/Eo, but couldn’t get the Corsairs out of South Harad effectively enough. Harad kept the North peninsular.

Good game - I was having a good game but the rest of the DS wanted to stop so… booo…

Hi folks,

I was the 3 / 7 combo (Eothraim / South Gondor). Thanks for the fun game and exciting challenge. The DL and DrL attacks into the Eoplex kept my up a few nights! I lost 2 of my 4 MTs including my capital.

I decided to combine my strength to focus on Mordor. I sent the SG starting armies up the Ithil pass with NG and helped take Barad Ungol and Barad-dur. On the way they ate up some FK armies and the starting BS army.

I sent the Eothraim starting armies partly at Morannon and partly around back. The around back crew fought the CL starting army and didn’t proceed. The Morannon crew fought with some DL armies and took Thuringhwost but couldn’t dent Morannon.

I tried to help out as best I could (given my choice to focus on Mordor) in Harad by sending navies and a bridge saboteur to slow the Corsair move from south to north Harad. Based on Clint’s comment above … seems like I helped? My main navy (40W/20T) destroyed the QA navy remnants (13W/10T) at 2632 on 4 and then the largest Corsair starting navy (18W/7T) at the Havens on turn 7. After that I held my remaining navy (10W/5T) in reserve watching for the Corsairs to move north. I managed to catch 12 unguarded Corsairs transports at 2632 on turn 14 and destroy them. My remaining navy was destroyed in turn the following turn by a 28W/4T Corsairs navy. But I guess we slowed the ability of the Corsairs and QA to ferry troops across the river.

I also tried to help in Harad by blowing the bridge at hex 3333 with my SG agent on turn 9 to prevent armies coming north by land. Did I catch an armies trying to cross and hold them south? Did anyone notice?

After the start I sent multiple coordinated waves of Eothraim cav and inf / SG cavalry at Morannon around turns 10 and 15. Both times Dwarves and Sinda armies joined up to party! The attack near turn 10 was thwarted by a dragon, Lamthanc, in an Ice King army. I actually managed to survive a combat with him but so depleted I couldn’t take Morannon.

Finally, on turn 15 we assembled sufficient troops to destroy Morannon (thought the capture was too risky - might lose - so i destroyed).

I nursed my SG agent with the +25 arty to be a saboteur by turn 9 and a killer by turn 16(?) of a minor IK agent at my capital.

Anyone interested to swap turn reports?

John

Hi

I sent my navy to EO plex and then a larger force. Didn’t the dragon to run at you?

I didn’t want you to get run over so I was there twice I believe. I bet that pissed them off!

Who played the DS?? Who played Rhu???

Yep. The dragon Lord made a run at the EO-plex and the Sinda troops were a big help! I would have lost at least another MT without you there … and with one more lost … it could have snowballed.

Who else played ??

Comments on GB38, partnered and played Northmen\Dwarf

Northmen comments:

West: Marched armies across mirkwood, captured goblin gate and then pushed into Rhuduar, took 2208 and disrupted stuff until T9 or so.

East:
Hit early at capital by dragon lord stealth challenges while doing the same to the LR.
Longrider tried to slow-roll the east by placing lots of camps and holding back his cav force off-map for an ambush strike.
By tracking Uvatha with mage spells he was putting camps up in the mountains at the back of mordor so we pushed hard south and trashed camps to keep the LR from being able to build an economy to support his military efforts.
Lost track of how many camps we raided around the back and then south of mordor (that was Dwarves) but it was a dozen or so.

T7: Eventually caught Uvatha cav force at 4321 and wiped it out. Lost 4415 lake town to LR around that time. He may have had an off-map pop center along eastern map edge.
LR made some cagey maneuvers. I think that if we hadn’t been paying such close attention to tracking uvatha with mage spells and hitting his camps to hurt him economically he could have done a lot of damage.

LR (based upon end of game character rankings had 60 points or so of agent artifacts on Din Othar) and he spent the entire game coming after me along with some others.

I was ok until one fateful turn where I got hit by multiple other agents from other nations while helping attack the north gate and sacking 3621 dk lts town….losing about 1400HC and losing my fleet in surprise challenge by Uvatha in the back of an army (I’d misread my turn, so a bad error on my part there). At that point I couldn’t rebuild my armies due to heavy agent pressure, they even found my recruiting base up at 3108 likely due to a rumor when I hit the dragon lord army up there.

T10+ lost 4217 to LR after they sabotaged forts, they tried the same thing at the capital later on but I improved it to a city and rode Cav from 3108 (improved to an MT) to take a bite out of the attacking force.

Sent something like 2k mounts, 6k leather, 30k food to eothrain around T15 while asking for help in diplo.

Ultimately, LR had me in a bit of a bind near game end but that’s not surprising considering I’d devoted a lot of efforts to other parts of the map and faced pretty withering agent pressure.
Ultimately in 15 turns I’d lost a town and an MT to them and taking an MT from them so I felt I’d mostly stymied any serious loss long enough to do damage elsewhere.

I took Olbamarl with emmisaries around T13-14 and per an earlier scout loyalty was 40ish but then the very next turn I flipped in with a single emmy influence.
Unless someone else had emissaries there it means the LR took a big tax spike and may have hit financial difficulties near game end with their big military push while the seasons changed and I ran a zero balance to cut income transfer via theft.

Clint, had a blast facing off with you in the Northmen vs LR you’re always a tough opponent.

LR has a big advantage due to the maps and agent imbalance and you took advantage of it.

Knowing that, I put just enough into slowing and otherwise stalling you so that I could do damage elsewhere so basically my strategy was to hold you off and help elsewhere.

I have to ask just how good your econ was and wth happened at Olbamarl? Ironically I failed with a 60ish and a 70+ there the turn before with influences and then flipped it with the jr. emmy the next turn.
In 15turns or so I lost one MT and a town. I took Olbamarl, Goblin Gate and some other Rhu stuff plus the Dk lts starting town on the north rim.

Had ZERO luck doubling your agents that game but hard to fight against your artifact pile.

How did you know I built up 3108? Spell or rumor or a doubling etc?

To anyone: Happy to trade turns, email darrel3540@att.net

Come on Clint, let’s hear it.

I saw Uvatha sit still for a turn on my town doing nothing near end-game so was he retiring troops to avoid bankruptcy or something else?

Since I can’t really hurt the LR beyond burning his camps I was forced to play a delay game while attacking elsewhere in force to be effective for the team.

I think that tying up the LR and in this case one of the major agent artifacts while helping elsewhere was my best play.

Great play on your part, you had me sweating my underpants on several turns, especially when I knew you were lurking with your starting Cav.
