Hi,

I'm a newbie in these parts but am slowly getting my head round the rules
after a couple of turns of confusion in my first game!

Got a couple of quick questions that I hope you may be able to answer more
easily than my tired eyes scanning the rule book.

How do Combat artifacts work? Do you have to issue an order to use them or
is it assumed that the character will always use what is best?

How does Army morale change? What's the practical affect of morale and what
are the best techniques to effect it?

Hope you can help lift a bit more of the fog from what is turning into a
very enjoyable game which seems to have buried its hooks in me well and
truly.....

Cheers in advance

Simon

Hi,

I'm a newbie in these parts but am slowly getting my head round the rules
after a couple of turns of confusion in my first game!

Got a couple of quick questions that I hope you may be able to answer more
easily than my tired eyes scanning the rule book.

How do Combat artifacts work? Do you have to issue an order to use them

or

is it assumed that the character will always use what is best?

RD: You do not have to order characters to use combat arts. If a character
has more than one combat art, he will use the one with a little tick by it
until he is ordered otherwise. The only time you need to order a character
to use a combat art is if you want him to change for any reason. Combat
arts help characters in challenge and they also help army commanders in
battle.

How does Army morale change? What's the practical affect of morale and

what

are the best techniques to effect it?

RD: morale will go up as long as your troops are fed and if they win a
battle. It can go down if your army has no food and/or it is force-marched
(but some nations have special abilities which limit the morale loss - look
on the front of your resultsheet for your nation's special abilities).
Enjoy!

Richard.

1. How do Combat artifacts work? Do you have to issue an order to use them

or

is it assumed that the character will always use what is best?

Combat artifacts are used when your character picks them up. Only one
combat artifact can be used per character and it is the first artifact that
is usuable by your nation (ie. nation alignment - good guys only use good
and neutral etc) not the best one that the character will utilize. You will
find a check mark next to the weapon on your character report that you have
equipped. If you want to change which artifact you are using, you must
either issue order 205 or drop or transfer the artifact that you were
previously using.

2.How does Army morale change? What's the practical affect of morale and

what

are the best techniques to effect it?

Army morale changes every turn. You gain points if the army is fed, you
lose if they are not. If you win battles, morale goes up. If you lose
battles, morale goes down. Forced marches results in lost morale. Personal
challenges won or lost also affect army morale as it is a little tough to
see one's army commander get whacked and still keep up the old chant that we
are going to kick some booty. To answer the second part, morale is one of
the factors in the combat equation. Like training skill and weapon skill it
is part of the equation that determines how much damage you do and can take
in return. The best technique is to keep food in the army and not to lose
any battles.

Hope you can help lift a bit more of the fog from what is turning into a
very enjoyable game which seems to have buried its hooks in me well and

Do have fun. It is an enjoyable game. There are a lot of talented and
experienced players out here, so ask the questions if you have them.

Thanks,

I had wondered what the tick mark meant! I'll try not to overwhelm the list
with simple questions.

Thanks again for your help

Sometimes simple questions help us 'old' timers also. Keep asking.

Dont worry too much about Army morale - although it has an impact on combat
it is not essential. It is 1/4ed in the impact on combat strength so not as
important as number and quality of troops, downgrading (185 order), and
choice of combat tactic. Note if you lose a battle your troops all die...
