Game 5

So let me get this straight:

  1. NG cavalry attacks the IK capital, which would no doubt draw a bit of attention to the army.

  2. He then moves his army “evasively” through the mountains past my village fort (3222), which has pretty good loyalty. Also, realistically, moving that many troops through mountains would limit available paths.

  3. He also makes it past one of my armies and one from the Dog Lord, which would realistically be traveling on the same road.

  4. He then crosses a stretch of wide open desert plains (3323) which realistically are in view from several population centers.

  5. Finally he again moves into the mountains to attack Barad Dur.

NG cav must be even better than elves when it comes to evasive movement. I guess this is the point where I have to keep reminding myself that it’s just a game.

Nicely played, though a bit absurd.

Skarp

There was an article in the old “Whispers” about evasive movement and it used evasive cavalry raids into Mordor to illustrate portions of the article. The article also contained the tactical factors that lead to success or failure of the tactic.

Done it myself, the EO cavalry force marched evasively from 3120 right into Mordor. When I was in old game 73 I tried to convince the NG player to do just what happened here, but he disbeleived it was possible.

You have a formidable and mentally flexible foe. Don’t underestimate him again.

You forgot to mention the several catapults that are being dragged along by this army and somehow managing not to slow it down as well

Why warmachines don’t effect the speed of an army at all yet a little bit of ‘light’ infantry does will also have to remain one of those odd quirks and mysteries

Obviously the Orcs were all looking the other way as this bunch of men and catapults rode past them - I dunno, maybe someone was waving a ring at the ‘black gate’ (or what’s left of it)

Anyway, 88 Noldo, of course you’re right that we’re just griping because we’re getting our asses kicked by very good play but it gives us something to do

Guys, my account was deactivated. I did something wrong, but now I am back.

DS - how bad are you hurting now !!! You might have thought that the pressure might ease after we took Morannon- but we are not sated yet !!

I hope you have apologised to the Easterlings. I am sure you must have promised him better than you delivered to go evil. Dave if you read this I know you are an honourable guy and I feel kinda sorry that your offensive was so badly supported by the DS types. But I did warn you…

So, DS have lost 7 of their starting MTs, and 2 more that they put up since game start. By my count, there are 13 starting DS MTs left (incl Easterlings) and 13 DS players maybe still in. 13 capitals and only 13 slots to go around??? Kinda reminds me of a rhyme in The Hobbit.

Bye Bye Baradur by the way hehehe

And this turn we launch our offensive at the back door, now that we have beaten 2 BS armies, Doglord, LR, Easterlings…

Nope, we didn’t promise Dave anything beyond continuing the game for longer and a well nigh impossible fight.

I guess that was just more appealing than one or two turns of causing havoc and then getting a win.

By the way, where on earth do you get thirteen DS players from? The most we could have is 11 (ten starting plus Easterlings). Some Enron-style accounting going on here methinks

What attack up the back passage? 1 cavalry force that has gone into hiding (sneaking!) and is a VERY long way from anything except me is not a real threat. Oh, and the dwarves, how could I forget them. Nuisance yes. (and being an expert on nuisance factor, I should know!) Should you choose to stop sneaking I’ll show it what is building behind the mountains!

Love and kisses, the Easterlings

I’ll leave it to others to attack “up the back passage”

What you dont know about should be giving you nightmares

Dwarves have remembered to downgrade now

You arent the only 1 that can build off map

4217 and 4318 will be mine very soon

But mainly I feel sympathy for you - another victim of DS false promises I suspect (despite what you might say  ). I imagine that the Doggies promised you a large army of cavalry - they turned out to arrive late, and only light cav at that - the BS promised you a big army - unfortunately all those men-at-arms were boyz with truncheons. I am the only one thinking YMCA

I wish you’d stop accusing us of doing things we haven’t done. I repeat, we promised absolutely nothing. It’s simple really - we told him we were losing and needed as much help as we could get.

For a neutral to join the losing, less skilled side, knowing in the end he’s probably just going to get a loss is to be commended.

Trying to ascribe other motives is demeaning to both him and your opponents who are not stupid, realise the game position and know they can’t promise anything.

Of course he is to be commended, for good game play…

However, it still won’t stop us from crushing the Dark Servants into the desert sands… and leaving little messages like ‘’’ Argeleb oz ere ‘50 ‘’’.

:sunglasses:

Hehe, that’s alright then

I’m sure we can just make them headstones instead - Argeleb is buried here, '50

Just for the record, only thing I was guaranteed was a lot of grief if I joined a team in deep dodo. And what better way to learn the ropes! I’ve always thought you learn a lesson better the hard way, rather than have it gift wrapped.

Anyway, we are not out yet, and personally I am hoping that this goes on a ways.

Cheers all

Why thank you… me, a nuisance… very kind…

now if only I remembered to downgrade to you I could get on and send all my troops to the front… or back… oh hell, wherever they can be a nuisance

Sorry to see you go DS, it did slow us down a bit and at least made whats-his-name now?? baabaarox moan for a reason about support

Don’t forget to keep some troops on your MTs… here I come.

less skilled side??? that can’t be true… Clint & co make every effort to secure even sides when setting up a new game, they’ve commented on that on lots of occassions.

If you were going to put yourselves down, maybe you could say you took longer to gel co-ordination than we did, and you had some problem in the NW that didn’t help you… and made your experienced southern player quit… but you still got the Eas onside and it looks like Har and Cor are battling it out, so neutrals haven’t all gone our way…

I really only meant myself, I wouldn’t put my team-mates down like that

However, make it ‘outplayed’ and that’s reasonable I think. Everything you say in your second paragraph is true though

What, nothing? It’s been a week, surely someone has something to say?

Don

Sorry for the silence, but it takes the messengers much longer to reach you from my new capital.
