The word is sometimes used by Hispanic prisoners in American jails. A policeman's billy club would be a clave. A particularly brutal warden might be nicknamed Clave, etc.

Also sticks beaten together as percussion instruments. From Latin "clava"
a club. Also, apparently "a club shaped organ in biology". But I can only
think of one club shaped organ. Perhaps it's just mine :wink:
