Game 94 DS Surrender

Congratulations to the Free Peoples.

You gave us a sound beating. our recons show about 25000 troops near or in mordor. that is truly impressive.

Thank you for an entertaining game.

Masa - Dragon Lord

Wow, 25k troops, has that been equalled or beaten in any other game?

Dean

When one of my earliest games (early 90’s) had ended, I had been fielding 13,637 troops (2094 HC, 682 LC, 8409 HI, 84 LI, 2284 Ar, 84 MAA…running an army maintenance of 53,066). And while they did not have as many troops as I, some of my teammates had rather sizeable forces themselves, which when combined with my own must have been well over 25k. I’m not saying 25k is a piddly number by any means, but I have seen higher numbers (and yes, these were in or ajacent to Mordor…at least within 6-8 hexes).

As you point out, just funding the troops at this high level is quite an achievement, I will have to try harder in my games I see!

It was a good game. And the first I have played in, I don’t know, fifteen years or so.

Some super basic mistakes made, but lessons learned.

I enjoyed the game as well. Like rvlvr, I hadn’t played for at least fifteen years and had never done so by computer. Now that I’m back in Middle-Earth, this won’t be the last game for some time…

Rvlvr which nation were you?
Blue
Dwarf

I was Quiet Avenger.

Bluecheese, at least we killed your namesake, right? There were so many dwarves in that army I lost count…

I played Fire King myself.

So will their enemies. A couple gold steals and they’re 13000 doorstops!

Glad to hear it from rvlr and you. Interested to hear your feedback as an old paper player on how easy (or not) you found the transition to JOverseer (hope you are using that program), what the advantages are and was it worth the effort (OK, shameless plug for the players who still don’t use it, but your post may show them what they missing and be a true evaluation of what the transition is like).

Dean

I am using JOverseer.

It is a good tool. Has helped a lot when plotting movement. The biggest upside is of course the chance to sync your actions with other players. Still somewhat awestruck by it.

After more than 20 turns with JOverseer, I’m still learning new ways to make it even more useful. It’s great, and the transition was not very painful!

Sorry, would have posted a while ago, but didn’t get access (despite trying for a while) until today…

I’m glad that everyone seems to have had fun. I certainly did. This too was my first game back after a long break, but I’m enjoying ME so much I’ll keep player for a long while at least. I also learned quite a lot in this game and am eager to employ that knowledge in my current and future games. Thanks again for everyone involved who made this game entertaining!

BTW, I played Cardolan since the beginning and Arthedain starting halfway through when the original player had to suddenly drop due to real life events. So, a significant portion of that 25K assaulting Mordor was mine.

Also, a tip of the hat to the Blind Sorcerer for being such a pain up in Angmar - and to his frustrating ability to pull dragons out of his butt apparently on demand. 8-/

This has got to be the longest surrender in history. It’s almost 2 months old now! I feel like holding an intervention for it so we can adequately express our grief and then move on

Well some of us have been unable to post to the forum for months now, until Dean sorted us out the other day. So we have pent up feelings that want out. =)

But yeah, I joined the game on Turn 4 as a replacement player for the Sinda. Thanks to the other FP for giving me enough cover to rebuild the nation without being trampled.
