Game Numbers?

What's the deal with game numbers these days? Does MeGames still
differentiate game numbers by which scenario you're playing? If so, it
seems kind of convoluted. How about something simple like the a range of
numbers that shows which scenario it is? Something like:

BOFA/Special scenarios are 1-99 (if 1650 needs these numbers, then use
300-399)
1650 scenarios are 100-199 (starts with a 1. If this isn't enough
numbers for 1650, then use 1-199.)
2950 scenarios are 200-299 (starts with a 2)
4th Age scenarios are 400-499 (starts with a 4)

I suppose it's not a big deal, but it would make it easier to determine
at a glance, and it's obviously a no-cost item. When there is some
interesting fiction related to a game in the Forum or on the list, it's
nice to know which scenario that game is under.

1650 - any number from 1-19, 30-39, 50-99 then rotate.

2950 scenarios are 200-299 (starts with a 2)

*** Yes. Also 12x, 22x are 2950.

4th Age scenarios are 400-499 (starts with a 4)

*** can't do this due to program restrictions. We use 4x, 14x etc.

I think Mike's concern is similar to one I voiced over a
year ago - The game numbers aren't intuitive.

I see that 2950 get's 200-299 AND 22x....but that's nitpicking..
AND 12x - is that for wacky 2950 games..or 1 week 2950 games,
and how many 1 week games are there and why are they wacky?

What's wrong with 100-199 for 1650 games? Not enough #'s?
They only get 79 numbers from 1-99 after you've removed
2x and 4x...? Why does 2950 get so many more?

1xx for 1650
2xx for 2950
2 digit numbers for those wacky games, and I'd include FA in
there, frankly, try to keep to 4x if you like, and considering
the start up problems you routinely speak about for FA, do you
actually project having more than 10 running?

If a 1650 or 2950 is 1 week, who does the 1xx benefit? Do
you require it to ensure you are able to remember to run it
every week...?

Ah well...

Unfortunately we can't go over 256...

DGE had a game number incremental increase which we couldn't use - different way the program is set-up so we had to compromise on it.

DGE games simply added 1 didn't they? Which was nice in that
there was only ever 1 game 192...

So 2950 gets 200-256...does the scenario need more? The only
point we're making is the intuitive factor. You see games
39, 42, 66, 235, 17, 131, 14 etc and really don't know
what it all means. If I saw "Game 131" I'd know it was a
1650 game and it's on a later turn than game 132, etc...

Do the below scenarios warrant more number slots?

1xx = 1650 (100)
2xx = 2950 (57)
4x = FA (10)
5x = BOFA (10)
1-39 = wacky game scenarios 1-3
59-99 = wacky game scenarios 4-8...
Keep a 10 spot open for WC games...? That kind of thing.

Just for us busy-bodies who follow other games as fans. Not a
huge deal, but as the topic came up again, I know I'm not the only
one who thinks the numbering scheme is a little lacking. Not
bad for he who understands it, but we're targetting new markets
aren't we? :wink:

Hi,

Unfortunately we can't go over 256...

Programmers .... bah!! Bring back the abacus. :slight_smile:
