Does anyone know the challenge rank of the “generic dragon” found in the Blue Mountains? Further, does fleeing the encounter tend to leave 1 health or does it tend to result in death?
Thanks in advance.

I got this encounter in game 31 as dunlendings with an 80Agent on turn 24.
Because I had such a great agent, i went for ITEM as the response. Well, there was no item. It was a classic challenge/battle with the dragon.
The agent won the battle and ended the battle with 54 health. I gained 17k gold as a nation.

From what I’ve read and brief personal experience in one game flee is automatic and always works without loss. Played the Noldor and placed a number of camps in the Blue Mts and after the 1st few turns never saw it again so don’t know whether it decided the neighbourhood had been affected too much and moved away but you should be able to ignore it. Alternative, quite a low level dragon so a relatively weak character [for a dragon-killer that is] should work.

I have a 129 challenge in the hex, though it was a company commander who got the encounter… I am just trying to decide if I feel like risking the character and which response I want to try…
Based on Mr. Holt’s experience, I would say it looks like a sure thing.

Jason,
there’s no such thing as a “sure thing”… there’s always that small chance of critical failure.
but yes, odds are very good indeed for a 129 challenge character.

Feel like sending me the .pdf…? That would aswage all my worries!

either way, update us after the turn runs!
I thought the generic was about 100PC and the named higher. Certainly an artied up Elrond can go on a splatterfest. It’s the annoying ‘no gaurantees’ that sees Elrond happliy slay half a dozen named and unnamed beasties, trip up get BBQ’ed and off the undying lands.
I’ve fled many times and never been hurt by these generic dudes. Poor little Emmisaries out mountaineering ‘ignore’ many encounters

Why waste Elrond on dragon killing? Commanders are easier to arty up and, frankly, much more expendable than a high level FP mage…
one reason might be the freep didn’t get a curse arty or the freep lost their command artys
