At the start of the game Clint announced to everyone which nation he was
playing and the DS were happy to go along with it. Under these
circumstances I dont think there is a problem.
I don't have the turnsheet in front of me, but this thread started with a
message that Sam is a DS in game 28, and our free sheet said 'any problems
with that ?'. I've no idea what position he is, and I don't believe any free
or neutral needs to know.
I think Clint is being excessively kind (maybe even cunning) by listing his
nation. I try to work out what nation my enemies are playing since people
have different playing styles. If I can ping a player name to a nation, I
can make guesses on how the nation will play, and then make counter-moves.
Not that they work in practice, but the theory sounds good to me.
Of course I don't know how good (or bad) Sam is at M/E, but if I knew that
he is the WK, then I can watch him play the nation, and NEXT time we meet, I
can make guesses on what his new nation will do.
In short (?) I don't see a need for a GM to mention nation numbers. And i'm
happy with Clint's current policy on GM's running positions in games.
thanks
