Gunboat Game Devotees

Both games are nuts for me right now…

Ouch!

Game 12 (1650) is great fun - 2nd most favourite game (Grudge with da boys - hard to beat that) for me at present - gotta keep my mouth shut… I think I’m like Brad and like being under the kosh…

Clint (player)

Being under the kosh is fine usually… But game 229 is getting a little out of hand…

Having to do my orders and I have no idea where to go now <sigh>

Thomas

229 Rocks! 229 Sucks!

Blah…

I’m getting my ass kicked in GB20. When it’s all over I’m going to hunt down my foe and send him/her some kudos. It’s my first Gunboat game (also my first 2950 game) and while it is extremely fun, it is also a bit of a shock to me…still learning a lot of game nuances that I take for granted in team games.

Plenty of action in this one. Perhaps it will find you

Game 229

I have to say some of the moves against me over the past three turns would have been exceptionally good in a team game. Whoever all these people are they must have some really impressive intel gathering abilities.

Thomas

It’s a damn bloodbath.

Thomas,

Just thought I’d pass on a possible note about GB Game 229:

Due to the possibility of starting players dropping positions, it is possible that some nations are exhibiting extra coordination because they are in fact played by the same person. This goes for FP and DS alike. And I expect each side has one or more players commanding three nations. This is a reminder, nothing more.

What a great game though.

GB 229

Nick,

Oh I know that… It just astonishing at what appears to be fantastic co-operation from a huge amount of nations.

Still quite fun though

Thomas

Too bad the FS is not updated to reflect the current state of the game with regard to combos. I guess when your capital is burned you will get the picture.

That would be giving too much information away I think.

How so?

3 nations already have the advantage of more characters and more resources. Now they get surprise too.

If I am playing the DrL or other DS and the Sinda/Noldo/Woodmen are be played by one person then I would certainly play differently knowing that I will face coordinated attacks from 3 nations rather than 2.

When one person is given the advantage of playing 3 nations, then the others players should at least know about it so the can perhaps adjust their play.

Another, and perhaps better, option would be not to fill drops at all. No one has more than two positions.

That can have huge impacts on game balance say the FK and CLoud Lord player drop for personal reasons on turn 1 or 2. The DS would be screwed and I think would lead to a boring game.

I think that since everyone knows what the combination of nations are at game start that it only makes sense to provide players with that information should it change…everyone takes into account players combinations when deciding their strategy…except me of course…I have no strategy

Both objections are good ones. How about randomly pairing the nations? Yes, the WK and Rhudaur might have an advantage in one game out of twelve, but this is not chess afterall. One more element in the "fog-of-war, which Harley erodes with the fixed pairings and subsequent providing of information.

Well put my sentiments exactly.

I also like the idea of a random game though I think drops would be more of a problem. I would most likely give it a try if there was enough 2950 interest in it and a better system of replacing players existed.
