Gunboat

Having played GB a while now I have an idea for Gunboat. On turn 10, turn
20, turn 30etc you get all turns of your team-mates? This if for a future
game of this variant.

Thoughts on that? Any other ideas that might add to this interesting
variant?

Clint

Without having played the variant, would this be the entire pdf,
pdf missing the first page and order sheets (that id's the player)
or something less than?

For me, I don't care what my teammates have been doing, I care what they will be doing.

Instead, allow for communication with a delay - say three turns. Early ME was designed for limited communication, not no communication. This way, you could plan (far) ahead, while keeping the talk to a minimum.

I'd hide the player name.

This goes back to my idea of limited communication, so we don't have
massive PDF sharing and a bit of chaos involved.

Who would be interested in playing a 2950 game where the only contact
allowed between players is official diplomatic messages through
Harlequin? Player names are not revealed, contact between players is
not allowed, and only communications through Harlequin is permitted.
Impersonating other nations is not allowed.

This might be helpful and will stop you dropping onto friendly pop centres
to see who owns it.

I'm not in favour of any communication - even delayed.

Another varient might be to allow each player to play 3 nations at start.

** Me neither but if there is a player base for it then that's fine. I find that in the game I am in an "ally" of mine is covering the same ground and we have no idea what another "ally" of ours is doing. (No communication - just similar geographic locations!). Very interesting but a little frustrating as well. If I were to see the team's turns rarely then appropriate action could be taken - change of targets etc. Knowing if a key PC has fallen would certainly change the way I would act.

Another varient might be to allow each player to play 3 nations at start.

** Now that's something I would love to play!

Anyone else got some thoughts on these two points?

My votes:
--delayed communication: NAY - not interested.
--allied PDF's every 10 turns: YEA - would intermittently give the tidbits
of information that would help determine if you are on the right track
strategically.
--3 positions per player: YEA - sign me up! (as soon as I can finish off
three current positions, that is. Sigh...)

I like the Idea of a only Diplo contact gunboat. Though that would put
alot of work onto Harley to verify that contact information was not
being given out on the diplo's. Also I'm not in the market for another
game so I won't be part of a player base interested in playing

I wouldnt be in favor of the pdf's being passed out. Part of the fun
and challenge of Gunboat is using some of the resources that you dont
normally use to find this info for yourself. Although it wouldnt stop
me from playing!!

Three nations? Absolutely, where do I sign....as soon as I clear some
space in my current line up that is!!
