Gents: (Delurking briefly), this idea would make me more likely to play. It'd give people at least a periodic update on the status of the entire game. Definate improvement to my mind. Give it a try.

Instead, allow for communication with a delay - say three turns. Early
ME was designed for limited communication, not no communication. This
way, you could plan (far) ahead, while keeping the talk to a minimum.
