Clint,
I had to hand edit my Automagic file a turn ago. I had an army commander not at my capital, moving his army to the capital and do a 948 order. Automagic would even not let me put the order in for the 948 since he was not in the origin hex, though I knew the army would make it to the origin hex. Is that a bug that I need to tell you about? I do know if I had the character doing an 810 order to the capital Automagic would have allowed me to put in the order. I did the edit and submitted my orders and sent the product out without any problems. That should be allowed, correct?
John
My MEOW won’t allow me locate 2 artifacts by the same mage and I just recently downloaded it from your site. Is this a new rule or is my program faulty?

That should work. It shows it in brown, if I recall, indicating that you are not at the hex. It does allow the order though.

That’s correct, you cannot cast two spells of the same type (ie no casting of 2 Lore spells, 2 Heal spells etc, but you can cast 2 different type of spells such as Heal and Lore).

I thought casting two LA’s or LAT’s was pretty common practice in most games I have played, is attempting to cast two of these against the rules in case the first attempt fails knowing that one of the orders will not work??

It’s not able to be input in the first place, so we just contact the players when it happens. Note two SEPARATE mages can cast, is that what you mean? I personally haven’t seen any examples of a Mage casting 2 LA or 2 LATs.
Clint
No I mean a single Mage casting the same spell twice, to improve their chances of actually casting the spell successfully, perhaps I’m wrong and you can’t do this any longer, pretty sure you used to be able to though.

Not possible to do.

Many of us have vague recollections of being able to do some of these things that are against the rules. The game that some think is perfect in every way reveals evidence of imperfections…I work in systems design, programming and worst of all…support… surprised I am not… I did some off-line screaming at Clint and he calmly advised me that, frankly, whether the program was “broken” for some of these or not, MEGames is upholding…wait for it…the Spirit of the Game…such that the obvious interpretation of the rules is to be upheld in these cases - whether by auto-enabling-ease or pain-staking-hand-mod…good thing they’re not unionized… Go back to your rules if you need, damn bureaucrats, killing off the loopholes…
There was a reason why GSI droned on about “must be discovered in the course of play”. If you carefully parse some of the GSI Rulebook’s sentences you come up with meanings different from a casual reading. All part of that alien principle “ambiguous environment”. Harley, I think, is anxious to tell you everything they know.
Personally, I liked the blundering around days. A lot of wheel spinning, but sometimes if you experimented enough and ignored the Rulebook enough you learned things that few, if any, other players were aware of. The Stassun/Feilds game was not a chess-like strategy game. Frankly, I miss it.
“Olivia! Get the net!”
Perhaps you have confused researching two spells with casting two, such as trying to learn both RA/LA or LA/LAT on the same turn (or weak/sick, sick/curse). This is perfectly legal, and commonplace in the games I play.
Ahh yes, that may well be what I’m confusing the issue with!!
cheers
Matt
I remember casting 2 LA spells (almost every game until recently) and suffering health loss.
What about chars that had to move to a certain hex. Wanted to practice movement spells i.e. 825 order but doubled up with an 810 just in case the spell failed. Did a lot of that too. The order progs do stop that but wheres the harm if the char isnt moving more than 12 hexes?
Do you think the flaw in fort building has been fixed yet Ed?

Not allowed…

Jerry I emailed you about this but haven’t heard back. I can’t find an example of such at present.

Jerry didn’t sign his post. For every Official Forum Response rule broken, do we get multiple same-skill orders allowed?
Signed,

Alan, there are no flaws in the Stassun/Feild game:). You just have to be a non-linear thinker to see the uses of some of them.
Mages were allowed to cast 2 locate artifact spells and suffer health loss during the GSI & DGE days for sure. I just thought my current version of MEOW was bad because it wouldn’t let me cast duplicates anymore. Now I know it was a rule change.
