This year
It’s been a very interesting year for us with new projects and developing the licence further. Getting UW out and working on KS, especially the encounters (some have over 30 outcomes!). Add to this lots of research into LoTR - re-read the Hobbit, LoTR and working my way through the Silmarillion at present as well as some source books on Tolkien and life in ME has been very interesting. I’ve re-gained an appreciation for the work of Tolkien and the world.
Stu left us for love in the US, but we keep in regular contact and we look forward to seeing him in March, but we brought on Will (he’s one of the guys doing a PhD with us and coding), another guy with long hair so the hair tally stayed the same.
From a gaming perspective I’ve tried out some new things and founds some improvements in my play. The FTF as always taught me some interesting elements of resource management in the form of tempo in the game and holding back at points to deliver a better punch (both economically and military) at later dates. There’s a rumour that there’s elements to the game that don’t include cavalry, must be blinkered methinks! Game 21 is a wonder to behold, can’t quite keep it all in my head which I love!
So overall it’s been fun. We’ve met with Ian Livingstone (Lara Croft, Games Workshop, Fighting Fantasy Gamebook fame) and Reiner Knizier (board-game designer extraordinaire) as well as playtesting some of our favourite games outside the world of ME, and earlier on met with KJC games to chat about PBeM - that was a blast! Although it’s disappointing to not have got KS out, we’re reasonably happy with UW considering the limitations that we have there.
The future
We’re pondering doing a Flagship con at some point, but that’s for the future.
I’ll be looking forward to “The Hobbit” when it comes out…
On a personal note my wife is expecting, interestingly enough on Independence Day so we shall see what happens there.
Thanks to all for making it a great year and here’s to the New Year! Blwyddyn Neuadd Da!
