health & order success

Has anyone done any analysis of whether or not a character’s health has any effect on their chances of succeeding at a particular order? Or better yet, does anyone know specifically what the software does?

My gut feel from all the games I’ve played is that character health doesn’t affect success chances, but if a character is doing something that might result in injury in event of a “muff”, then the character is at risk of death if their health is low.

Im most inclined to confirm your statement, I had a char with less than 20 health winning a challenge against an even opponent, he got minor wounds but the fighting power was unaffected.

Challeges aren’t “orders” perse that require skill. It’s a pure combat algorithm using 2 numbers: challenge rank and health. Even at 1 health, the character has his full challenge rank.

As for the question of the thread, I’ve been advised that it does play a role, albeit minor. Similarly, have been advised to issue orders Against those of known reduced health.

well, not a lot of data out there apparently. My own experience doesn’t seem to suggest that health affects order success. Let’s take agents as an example. I tend to send 40+ agents out stealing gold repeatedly to pump them up, and they get injured a lot, but i just keep using them, and almost always the turn after they fail and get injured, they succeed.

I’ve got a very interesting opportunity to test this in one of my games where I have an agent with very low health but very good skill levels. I’m going to try to kidnap an enemy character against whom the agent should have very good success %. I’ll let you guys know what happens… but overall, my suspicion is that health doesn’t affect order success/failure. it obviously affects chance of death in case of failure if such failure results in loss of health.

I’m just curious to see if anyone has really studied this.

Collect enough anecdotes and you can eventually call it data. I concur that in my experience I haven’t been able to tell that wounded characters are more likely to fail. I’ve had agents with health less than 20 (after healing 14 that turn) succeed in assassinations.

I have had an agent lose 99 health points from a dragon encounter and steal gold that very turn with one health point. Me I would be flat on my back unable to switch channels.
