Hello Again

Sorry if this is a repeat but my first attempted post seems to have
disappeared.

Hello to Brian Mason (the one name I recognize) and any other folks
still around from the GSI days. Getting back into the game after
about 5 years away so thought I'd see if any of my old
allies/enemies are still about.

Welcome back. The ME game is as much fun as ever, in some ways more. More variations, and a more open-minded GM. Enjoy!

  Richard.

Glen,

Great to hear from you!

There are a few of us "old codgers" about, though I've not played with
any from our generation yet. Hope to see you in a game,

Brian

Any changes to the game? I do see that there are at least some new
versions such as the gunboat variety which should spice things up. I
recall some discussion about randomizing artifact numbers and toning
down agents but don't know if these things were implemented. I
know 'agent burnout' was one reason I stopped playing. But, agents
or no, I'm looking forward to another game.

Hi Glen, Gunboat is MEPBM without the communication, IMO a retrogressive
step. You could say it "spices things down." It does have a very keen
band of advocates though.

You should certainly look at the War of the Ring scenario modification -
I'm biased as I had input when Richard Devereux was putting it together and
in the playtesting - but I think it's the best scenario so far.

Hi Glen! wow, it's like a reunion!
FA 1000 was introduced in the latter days of GSI/DFT. It's a variant
that allows you to design your own nation from scratch and also
includes the randomized artifacts you speak of. Did you leave MEPBM
prior to FA starting up? I can't remember. I also left from about
2000 through 2003. Got back in to see if agents had been toned
down. Played SG in a recently completed 1650 game and woohoo!
indeed, agents have been toned down to be of mere mortal status.
While the DS can still gak a lot of FP characters, they fail a lot
more often (militia in fortified pop centers help & grdchar actually
does help protect the guarded character now!), and armies led by 2
command/agents is a very viable strategy.

So, how have you been? I can't even remember how many games we
played together, but i think it was several.
cheers! and welcome back into the fold!

The 2950 and 1000 scenarios were both pretty new when I last played.
I think I tried each once and will certainly give them another look.

Hello Dave,

I think my last game was a FA1000 so I did play that one once. Very
good news on agents which has me more excited for a new game. Yes, I
know we were in a few games together and probably on opposite sides
a time or two as well. Were you in the seemingly never ending game
as the FP (may have been game 66 but I'm not certain) that we
finally won around turn 115?
