History of the Characters in the Game

To whomsoever is knowledgeable,

I am trying to find a website resource for the background information
on characters from the game. An example is that Duran of the
DragonLord is described as a demon from beyond the Pale. Or that
Carrog is a lesser maiar spirit with his own couple of lackeys.
I find this sort of thing fascinating but I cannot find a resource that
delineates the references to finding this sort of thing out. My
brother gave me a website by baerauble for random name generation that
has some of this in the personalities link.
Perhaps someone with more knowledge can help out?
Many thanks for your time,

Play around a bit with a search engine as well. I've found many many
sites out there with some connection to Tolkien. The professor does
have his loyal fans.

There are a number of online Tolkien encyclopedias and sites far more
specific in nature: Quenya language, Middle Earth history, the
creation and nature of orcs, etc. The internet and it's denizens is
an amazing thing!

Iron Crown Enterprises did a wonderful job of incorporating and
fleshing the land and people in Middle Earth through their high
quality game play modules. These sourcebooks are tough to get ahold
of but I've seen quite a few Ebay auctions for them. I'm not sure if
any of them are still printing.

I was, and am, a bit of a gaming geek as I'm sure many of us are. In
my opinion MERP was any excellent gaming system, based in Rolemaster
but fleshed out and tied to Middle Earth. Excellent work by the folks
at I.C.E. and with a dark tone matched by only Warhammer Fantasy
Roleplay and Earthdawn perhaps, though Earthdawn got a bit mystical
and silly for my tastes.

My understanding is that much of the 'flavor' of MEPBM is based upon
the MERP sourcebooks and I'd guess that many of the characters at
game start are represented therein. It could make for very
interesting reading in context and serve to flesh out what can become
chess pieces in a war/strategy gaming environment.

A lot of these came from ICE's various Middle-earth Roleplaying books.
I'm not sure if any of that information is online.

OK.

Go to Waynesbooks.com and search for all the I.C.E (Iron Crown Enterprises) role playing books of MEPBM. There are about six of them that give all the major and many of the minor characters, spirits, creatures, treasures, gods and demi-gods of Middle Earth. The one you really want for the Nazgul and all of Sauron's minions is called Gorgoroth (an actual campaign).

There are six books, Volumes I, II and III "Lords of Middle Earth", "Creatures of Middle Earth","Treasures of Middle Earth" and "Gorgoroth".

Two other excellent references are "The Atlas of Middle Earth" by Karen Wynn Fonstad (ISBN # 0395535166), and "Tolkien the Illustrated Encyclopaedia" by David Day (ISBN# 002031275X).

Also, read "The Silmarillion" if you haven't already, or "The Lost Tales", The first by Tolkien and the second assembled by Christipher (his son).

Good reading!
