I have been thinking of trying out the Dwarves and i´m wondering about the Horn of Fear.
It is supposed to let any character cast conjure mounts but how many do you get? Does it us conjuring characters highest skill rank or do you get a set number of mounts?
Hi there Masa. I have limited experience as the dwarves, but one game did play them and the horn never had conjuring mounts - It had an ‘easy’ perceive spell. So you may have to 412 research arty on it to make sure you know what it gets. Then you have to research the spell in the artefact, so you need to give it to a mage. When you cast the spell you have to nominate how many mounts it conjures. The rule is 5x natural mage rank so a rank 40 mage will make 200 horsies. (We Australians have a joke about New Zealanders and sheep but we’ll leave that alone at this point … ps no sheep were harmed in the creation of this publication…
Oh PS - I’ve also found that M30’s have a nasty habit of getting rubbish casting ranks so it’s very hit/miss when you cast it. M40’s though seem to get great casting ranks consistently.
That explains why the dwarves always walk when they come to crush me.
The guide says that it lets any character cast conjure mounts, as opposed to letting a mage learn the spell, but it did sound too good to be true.
No - those lost spell list arties allow magi to learn the spells on them. The gift to you is not that you can turn another character into a mage, but that you get to learn a spell that no one (without the requisite artifact) can have.
I know that most artifacts allowing access to a lost list spells are usable by only mages, however, my response was in accordance to masa’s inquiry. He said it was supposed to let ANY character use it. You did notice my original comment was as a question?
