I know people from GSI game #'s < 10, alas, I’m a newbie - SG in Game 308 circa 2000 was my intro, hooked into 310, 312, 316 etc…then I believe it was bought out by Harley and re-branded, along with their unfortunately repeating Game #'s

my first time playing was when i was 12-13—circa 1995. That lasted about a year until a few phone calls to Toronto. Those phone calls lasted a LONG time as I got a number from my teammates post cards(remember those?!) . The calls discussed tactics but were unknown to my mother and when the bill arrived—NO MORE GAME.
Then years later I moved to Florida(ugh) and found my rule book. Knowing no one in town I started to play again—haven’t stopped since.
Ah, who was that in Toronto? Send me his # and I’ll see if he’s still around, share a couple pints and tell him Whit’s all grown up and pays his own bills now - he should come back to the game…
I started in 1991via postal mail. Off and on over the uears and i still enjoy the game. But i love role aying and baprdgames also…
At one time both my brothers and a nephew all played also.
I hope to continue playing…jz of clan Roberts
GSI game 69. You never forget your first game.
I played the Dwarves - didn’t have artifact numbers, encounters, enemy maps or characters, any intel really. Everything was fog of war. My friend was playing Eothraim and ran into Gothmog turn 1 and were were both like, “gee, who’s that?” The DS were experienced and picked up every single agent artifact on the board - we battled on 30 odd turns sacking much of Mordor before they ultimately slaughtered us. Good times.
Played Earthwood with GSI before MEPBM came out. The agony of not receiving your turn in the mail box on the Friday before a long weekend still burns.
It’s a great game, totally unfit for this modern age of instant gratification, but great nonetheless.

My first game was in 1996 or 97, my first semester of college after a tour in the Army. I played Dwarves in a 2950 game, had no idea what I was doing, and got eaten alive by the LR and RE by turn 10. But I did kill Uvatha in a PC after he foolishly challenged Thorin (who I had stacked up with artifacts).
Before that, I played Earthwood and Sea Kings with GSI, when I was in high school.
I also played this cool game where you played a street gang, called It’s a Crime. You had different levels of gang bangers with different skills you had to send out for various kinds of illegal activites to generate money, capture other gang’s territory, etc.
There was another one I played that was run by an outfit in California called Schubel & Son (or something like that) called StarMasters. At least I think that was the name. You were playing an alien race that had just developed space travel - you didn’t have FTL yet, so you were mostly confined to your home system until you cracked that code, or were lucky enough to have other systems within a reasonable distance. The cool thing was you got to design you race from the ground up using a point-based system. This company is long since gone, to the point where I can hardly even find mention of them online.
Then there’s always Flying Buffalo, I played few of their games back in high school, too. Their website says it was last updated 3 days ago, so I guess they’re still in business.
Playing since 1991. Also played the Dwarves in my first game with a company called Allsorts, before the renamend Harlequin, before they renamed MEGames. Game number was 102, three-weekly-postal, running for a legendary 75 turns, that’s more than four friggin years. Never had that ever again. Game experience was much like Adam describes it, until we stumbled over some cryptic info one of our Team found in a magical place called “Internet”… I remember my first diplomatic contact with Arthedain, via handwritten Cards. He asked me to attack WK, I asked for 10.000 Gold to send a force of 1000 hi, roleplaying Dwarves as I thought I should. Nevertheless we managed to win finally, simply by wearing the DS out… Tried some other PBM games but never go the hang of it. I so much wish this game doesn’t die, but after recent experiences I have not much hope…
We should have that up soon Bernd. Apologies for the delay, lots of changes in the office pushing things forward at the moment.
Good news Clint. Thanks for the update and all your years of running MEPBM!
I used to think this game was simple, then I started to try and really play it…
Still trying!

So 42 is in the process of setting up - crossed fingers out this week. Game 41, a normal 1000 game only needs a couple of players and then we’re ready to go…
