Ice King Question

Actually, ICE is way off base in describing the Nazgul. They were
called the black riders by none other than Professor Tolkien himself.
The portrayal in the recent movie is spot on with Professor Tolkien's
description which would make all of them look essentially identical
unless you saw their particular ring. That is to say, they look like
giant evil ninja jawas with swords...

lurking artist here;

the problem with drawing ringwraiths is that they are invisible
(right?) except for what they are wearing. This I.C.E. creature is
described by I.C.E. as;

Hoarmurath: Ice King. C-30, A-20, M-50 (70), St-30, Ch-910 "...a large
and stocky individual..." (Gorgoroth - ICE) Ovir Crown. +20 mage,
Neutral. (50) "His helm resembled the head of Ovir, the great white
Northern Bear." (Gorgoroth - ICE) Snow Hammer. +500 combat, Neutral.
(80) A war mattock forged of Dragon-slaying forged from clear laen and
inlaid with the horn from a drake. (Gorgoroth - ICE) Hue Changer. +500
combat, Neutral. (141) A spear made from dirwood.(Gorgoroth - ICE)

(above from http://www.lakenet.com/~attorney/runestone/servant.htm)

It's hard to make fuzzy cute polar bears look mean, but did I.C.E. take
that into consideration??? Nooooooo, "let's make it a polar bear.... "
: )

p.s. btw, I was one of the vocal people for FTF in Chicago or Minn. I
would be very happy if it were here in Chicago, but couldn't really
participate in the discussion about fee's, etc, since I wouldn't be
playing. Sorry if I contributed to a mis-representation of the whole
thing.........

While were on this topic ... would someone care to discuss Ji Indur's
fez?

Clint, in the name of all things sacred, please update those
portraits.

thing.........

The current pictures of the Nazgul make them look like a cross
between an xmas party and a village green fancy dress competition !
Some of them seem to look less menacing than the Village people. Dark
and nasty, looking like ninja-jawa's is the way to go !

Less menacing than the Village People!!!.. Its hardly surprising really.. I
think I would rather meet a Nazgul than the Village People down a dark alley
anyway..

Thomas

1) I agree!! whole heartedly!

2) I updated my website so you can see just how truly gay* some of
them are! : ) (note Ji-Indur is just tooooo gay* to post)

3) I really think Harly should set it up so that clients can have the
choice of many pictures for their characters and have better scans to
look at

4) As far as the Nazgul go..... Harly needs to decide if they want
drawings that describe them as I.C.E. has laid out (i.e. Adunaphel
wearing a sea turtle helm....) or whether they should be more
representative of how we all think of them (scare-th-sh##-out-of-you
scarey) Back in 1990 GSI wanted them the ICE way... I have some ideas
and maybe I will post them in the next bree..... we'll see...

5) oh, I can't put the names up on my website, so here are the names
of the characters posted;

page 1 top; Maben (Dragon) Carrog (Dk Lt) Gorthog (Ice)
bottom Nimrodel (Sindar) Malezar (Quiet) Duran (Dragon)
page 2 top; Murazor (Witch) Adunaphel (Quiet) Dendra Dwar (Dog Lord)
bottom Hoarmurath (Ice King) Akhorahil (Blind) Khamul(Dragon)
page 3 top; Eadur (Corsairs) Meneldir (Arth) Shoglic (Cloud)
bottom Odagavia (North) Yezmin (Harad) Araudagul (Cloud)

as I've said before, I wanted you guys to see them as they were meant
to be seen, not the blurry black smudges you are used to... they may
be goofy, but g##da##it they're accurate and detailed!! : )

have fun,
Amelia

hey, my roommate just tried my website on his regualar dial up modem
and they took forever to load. For all of you without DSL... sorry.
I'll go back in sometime this week and make the drawings smaller and
with less resolution (although these are only at 100 dpi) But for now,
you are forwarned.

also, if any of you tried earlier today or in the last few days, I was
battling it out with Earthlink. (It was ugly, but I prevailed)
It should be accessible now...

I just went out and had a look at these. I now completely understand how
you could be horrified at the scans. I realized I was totally
misinterpreting what I was seeing on almost all the Naxgul shots. Just
wanted to say how great they look in good resolution.

Just had a look at the site and the drawings are brilliant. Tell me, do you
have any sketches of any scare-th-sh##-out-of-you-scarey Nazgûl???

Wow. Just had a look, and yes they did take an age to load - had to pile on extra coal to the PC boiler. But well worth it. What a revelation to see these chaps, so familiar over the years, in their full and original glory. What a difference! You should have sued for damages to your artistic reputation and integrity, if not for criminal damage!

The problem I think was in the original brief. They should have told you to draw to 2 inches by 1 inch, as your level of detail was bound to be destroyed by reduction.

thanks for the nice words.

The overly-detailed drawings were some of the first ones I did and I
don't fault GSI for the bad scans for those. NOONE could have reduced
those down to the size they wanted and had them look anything like
the original. That was my fault. Not being a professional.... I was
clueless. But the bulk of the drawings could have benefited from a
tiny bit more resolution (insert sarcastic look here) : )
you can tell which are the later drawings..... much less detail.

As far as scary Nazgul are concerned, I have some ideas and I will
try to submit some ideas to the next issue of bree ..... but I have a
bad genealogy addiction : ) and it's hard to break away from exciting
things like census records and landsale documents! : )
yeah..... I'm a geek.

I just looked at this drawings as well. Really superb detail. I was
particularly impressed with Carrog.
Shame some of the original detail got lost in the game....still cool
to see the original versions though.
