I remember… I was 15 years old and a friend told me he had bought a brand new game. He did not fully understand what it was all about, but it looked pretty cool. The moment I lifted the lid from the red box with the dragon on it, I did not have the faintest idea of how it would impact my life. countless hours of roleplaying, computer and strategy gaming have followed. D&D was just the first step into this world, but almost everything that makes up the roleplaying universe today was inspired by that.
I am pretty sure there are others here who feel the same. So let us share a short moment of remembrance in honor of Gary Gygax, creator of D&D, who died a few days ago. He made this world fantastic
There’s some good posts about him, I know a few people who met him and they’re all been enthusiastic about him in life and in death.
Never really played much D&D but our last Wed session had the odd kobold child and d20’s rolled… despite them not being in the game!

Could you guys maybe put a mention in Bree? Like the above member my world was also turned much brighter by this man’s vision.
RIP - Dude
I’ll set a cold one out for ya;)
Gary Gygax and Dave Arneson were teamed with Robert Kuntz, James Ward, Brian Blume and many others in the creation and promotion of D&D. But clearly, Gary Gygax’ name became synonymous with fantasy role-playing.
I salute them all, and was saddened to hear that Gary died last week. My friends and I were in Las Vegas over the weekend for a little disc golf & R&R and we raised a pint in memory of Gary. Our group of friends all met in live-action fantasy roleplaying (IFGS is a USA spinoff of D&D for sure). Truly Gary’s vision and effort, coupled with the work of many others, gave countless numbers of teens and young adults hour upon hour of enjoyment and spawned a fantasy genre that has attracted millions worldwide in follow-on games, books, and spin-offs.
Thank you Gary! Few on the planet have shaped the human experience in such a positive way.

For those that haven’t seen it a great little tribute to the man in “The order of the Stick” http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0536.html As the author says “May he roll well for stats in his next incarnation.”
Thank you Mr Gygax
Order of the Stick - gotta love it!
Warning: this is highly addictive stuff, you’ll probably spend hours reading through the plot
OMG how did I miss this news…
The guy will be sadly missed… like others, I started on T&T, moved to D&D, then onto MERP and Rolemaster… But kept using his Greyhawk material for campaigns… he will be sadly missed…
