JO update ME

Hi Clint

A couple of minor points: could we have Map Options defaulting to “current” instead of just one nation and could we have the Clear Map Items icon back on the bar at the top next to the Order Checker and other stuff?

I may have had the same problem with Recon/Srcy Area (not recently enough that I can recall), but the Palantir info issue is definitely an ongoing problem.

Arty-info-gathering functionality is there, but doesn’t compile/track all available info (“Game Arties” tab). I suspect this is a medium-term coding project, but it has always been an issue (shame to see it there, but not usable – this may be more of an issue in modules with “randomized” arties…).

Hey, if we are asking for stuff, I would like the “current

Also when I import, why are there always errors listed?

Yep we're aware, it's a process of getting all the info from the XML into a format that JO reads and then can show to users. So 3(4) stages to organise any single item that a player wants; it is there in the original database, then gets into the XML, then JO reads then portrayed.

Just as a note for those curious, our current projects are

1) CME testing, coding and fixing
2) JO coding, testing and fixing
3) Internal code running the games, updating that. (For those of the questioning mind - it's not changing the code!)
4) Vegas baby Ftt event in Vegas at end of June
5) Newsletter/player bits
6) Marketing and new players
7) Another project
8) KS balancing and FAS updates. I do really, really, really want to tweak 1650 as well but I'm not atm. 2950 I'd like to truncate the map and lose 2 neutrals and 4 nations per side (probably NW) but I've not got the time to address that.
9) New code - Player stuff, new SNAs, new encounters, (including an encounter system for players and GMs to use).
10) This is my part time job
11) Tidy office - the last Mac is gone, it's gone buddy, it's dead. So all the lovely leads and such no longer need to be there. I've got around 5 Macs stored away and no you can't have it.
12) New code - GM stuff - Gmail issue, encounter checking, simplification of set-up process. etc.

So if you go, oh my they've still not fixed that, be aware that it is one item on the list.. .

Ack! I don't like having them all in one place, I like each in its own directory with the other files for that game. Which works ok, once I've found the right directory and loaded the game, when I go to import, JO knows which directory I opened the game in, so its' easy to find the latest turn directory. But when I go to save, it defaults to whatever the directory was the last time I saved -- not the last time I loaded.

Sorry I'm not clear when you save your game it
saves to where JO is - the beuaty of this is that
you can have all your games in one directory so
that when you open JO it shows all your current games.

Yes that's by design, for the reasons I gave, you can always move the game file.

That feature is fine, IMHO... but it’s not working. When you go from one game and try to directly load another game, the characters in the “Orders” tab don’t change. You have to exit and restart JO.

Whoever talked about saving each JO file to their game-specific directory had it right. A tiny bit of time but keeps everything organized and avoids serious problems (as in losing a JO file and having to recreate the entire game).

I used to think the same way, but I’ve resigned myself to store all my game JO data files [gamexxx.jov] in one directory, but still keep everything else rigorously segregated into sub-directories by game and turn. Works well, as the default location for saving points to the one directory of game data files, while the import orders and export orders default to the sub-directory trees I’ve set up.

I know you’ve already replied Clint but I second David’s motion. The ‘clear map icons’ button has to be the single most used button imo… surely it’s more confusing for new players trying to figure out how to clear their map hunting in the drop down menus!

JO 1.16.13 is live… updates and windows installer live.

  • Fix: Orderchecker incorrectly reporting duplicate skill order.
  • Fix: silent exception stopping New Game dialog closing.
  • Enh: Gather Support Data Command added to aid debugging in the field.
  • Enh: Colours for CME updates for accessibility.
  • QA: updates and Windows installer now built in ‘the cloud’ by

For those still stuck, you can use an old version of JO but be aware
that as time goes on they will become less compatible. I recommend

Okay any opinions guys? If it's something players will want and use a lot (I use infrequently) then it's something for me to look at how we highlight it

C

I know you've already replied Clint but I second David's motion. The 'clear map icons' button has to be the single most used button imo... surely it's *more* confusing for new players trying to figure out how to clear their map hunting in the drop down menus!

Okay noted, the first I'll check on what's what,
the second I won't be implementing as it clutters the screen for new players.

Current should be the default map and Clear should be a single click button. If such things confuse people, IMO they can either get motivated to learn 'Wow~! Look at all this stuff~!" or there is no helping them - so leave the rest of us our toys~!

Clear Map - we draw our allies orders to help analyze them. We draw Emissary movement to confirm there are no conflicts. We draw the Hex View thing to see what hexes we’ve never mapped later in the game to use our Palantiri to fill in the off-map areas, etc. We then have to clear them to move onto the next item…

Cheers,

Hi Clint

Just to reinforce the point; I must use the Clear Map Icons button at least 20 times every time I load up JO. As an example, I regularly check how far a character can move and I then need to clear that before checking another one.

You know you can untick the selection right? So I often put army moves on then, untick them later. I get how players use the clear map function and when it all gets a bit cluttered I agree it's nice to have just clear the stuff away. I don't want it on the menu bar so get back to me where you'd like it and it's clear for new users what it is.
