Joverseer

Hi,

Who is responsable for updating and improving JOverseer ?

Currently the UW map in joverseer is FILLED with errors all over, which makes it very annoying to use.

What other updated mapping tools are there now a days besides Joverseer and Palantir ?

Check the JOverseer mailing list here:
http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/JOverseer/

You can post the errors you have come across, typically they get corrected in the next build but feedback is the essential step

JOverseer was created by a player in his spare time - and it’s taken a great deal of that to create the product you see. ALL CAPS are certainly inappropriate here.

Palantir and Joverseer have different strengths. Presently we’re supporting Joverseer as we see it as the future. if there are any bugs then send Marios and email with them please. I think there’s a section where you can contact him, failing that send to me and I’ll forward them.

Thanks

Clint

I wish someone would pick up MEAssist and get it running again. I got to use a working prototype for 1 game, and loved it. Then the harddrive on that computer when kablooie, and I lost it. The replacement I tried to download never worked right.

Surely, one of you techno-wizards out there could fix it?

MEAssist and JO together would be absolutely awesome. JO gives you the Right Now and let’s you move forward. MEAssist gave you a lot more analysis regarding “how you got to be Right Now”.

Agreed, Robert S’s product was very nice to play with, but he’s since left the game, and the app. While improving a number of issues as he went, I was working with him on it when he left - but he never got to solving the accented characters, at least for pop centre’s, for Maros in Umbar, for example, would always crash the Corsairs files…real shame.

That’s too bad he left the game. I guess the chances of getting him to finish de-bugging are pretty much zero.

My geek-fu is far too weak to even attempt the task.

Well,
I’m using Joverseer as a team-captain in a grudge-game and I must say: it’s perfect!

The PDF-viewer is bad all other things are working well.

Have Fun!

OK – got joverseer to run on my computer (gives wife a big hug and kiss as she hates me doing these games).

My questions are ??

1-- I put all the PDF’s and XML files into one folder like I do for Palintir and when I upload them on joverseer it just reads the xml files and tells me the pdf’s aren’t found – why

2 – How do you generate orders ?/ I went to the generate orders icon and then I typed in the orders number for each character and couldn’t get the order checker to work.

Mike

Mike, do you know how to do Print Screen? Somewhere on the top, usually to the left of Delete, End and the like, it’s above F10 on my laptop, for example. When you’re looking at JOverseer and you have a question, hit that button. Open up Word or something and choose Paste. Then type your question. Keep going like that and send the Word document to me when you’re finished. I might ask for the JOV file, etc also to check some things.

I assure you, once you figure out how to move around, do and draw your orders, take a look at your economy, etc, you’ll be very very glad you did…

Brad

Hold the “ctrl” key down and the “PrtScrn” key down. that copies the screen shot. Open up a word doc, then hit “ctrl+V” to paste.

Rollin

Put the turns into separate folders.

Turn 01
Turn 02

etc

then import a directory. That should work.

I had something similar the 1st time I used it, either xmls or pdfs not loading, can’t remember which. The 2nd time I didn’t select an option at start up saying something about using the latest version. It worked fine then. Might be that I’m still using Windows XL so a fairly old system.

As Clint says, for different turns, place them into different sub-folders.

On generating orders, one of the windows on the bottom right is for inputting orders. I normally use the toggle floating option then move and size it for convience. On the main right hand panel [the current hex view] you can use the button’s by the characters name to open up the order option. Click on the small icon with a pen [I think] across it and the character name will be moved to the main order panel. Enter the order you want there then save to the current hex view by using the save option on the floating panel. This then saves it to the main hex panel. Repeat this for the other order, then for the other characters. [If you lose the floating order panel there is an option Window - restore Original layout - that I find very useful].

Once you have entered orders for each character then there are a number of options along the top bar of icons. The 6th, a page with a tick across it, is the order checker. It will ask a number of questions, generally about the food status of various armies and also whether certain characters are in a cmp so best to have the food details noted down somewhere. On in-putting the info it should come up with a list of orders and flag up any it thinks are either wrong or incomplete. Doesn’t always get it right but can be useful.

There are two options for outputting a set of orders. The 5th icon is for the orders as sent to ME. The 8th generates a readable report that is easier to see what’s going on and I use that, with notes, for displaying to the rest of my team.

Hope that helps.

Steve

Note there is a user guide that is very useful and clear.
