looking for new/better/current info on the fourth age junk

Howdy folks,

I looking for a website/forum/type thing wherein the discussion is
MEPBM and especially any floating articles etc. on the Fourth Age and
nation design...preferably with the new rules in useage. I am not
looking for strategy sites as was requested on the Forum... I am not
smart enough to use someone else's vision as my own anyways. Anyhow,
my thanks in advance for any help on this topic.

Jerry,
There are some articles that I wrote on Fourth Age in the old
News from Bree back issues but they are alas slightly out of date at
present with all the new changes.

Jerry,
I guess the best place to discuss Fourth Age is on the private
Fourth Age group that was used to redesign it, however that is not
used much at present.

General Principles that I find in the new format are as follows:-

The introduction of the region bonuses has made people think about
locating capitals outside the traditional mountainous regions. As a
result nation design seems to be going for the road / non-mountain
bonus and fortifying pop centres as much as possible.

The general principle I see is that it is best to be on the offensive
that the defensive here. The ideal way to do this is to co-ordinate
attacks within the team to ensure that nations cannot interfere and
that neighbouring nations that could help have their own problems to
resolve. As always it is part down to positioning and part down to
good teamwork.

I am starting to see a lot more nations playing with naval stuff with
the new inducements. Often they are tacked onto a nation design, but
they do seem to make a difference. The main thing to think of is that
if you have a port / harbour that you can be attacked there too.

Common nation designs I've seen are:-

Horse Mages - Hire for Free, and Conjure mounts
Agents - Two variations here - either +20 kidnap / assasinate OR
Agents at 40 / Double scout
Economic - Emissaries at 40 / Buy /Sell

I really must write another Bree article on this to discuss the
changes. I have noticed in the games I have played recently that
provided the north east has mainly on faction with lots of horse mage
nations they tend to do well.

The Middle Earth forums on the Middle Earth Games site have forums for
1650, 2950, Miscellaneous, Mouth of Sauron and News from Bree but no
1000 FA forum. Harlequin is there any reason for this?

We'd love to see more articles for Bree and I think this would be excellent. Don't forget you get a free turn for any such article so if you're strapped for cash but have lots of time/ideas then this is potentially an ideal way to pay for your hobby.

Well we're no long Harlequin but this was what seemed right. Generally most traffic is in the generic section though.

Hey Gavin,

Thanks for the input! A question about the agent
based nations...has there been much use of the #5
Stealth Bonus rather than the double scout if 40 pt
agents are also chosen? I have not heard of anyone
taking it and having good or bad to say of the SNA.
Most folks seem to take the 10 pt guarantee at the
nation design stage but leave it at that. I had
thought also what happens in game mechanics when
someone chooses challenge bonus and stealth bonus and
begins naming new characters.
  thanks again!

Jerry,
As Clint asked nicely (and with a bribe) I am writing
another Fourth Age article to include updates). As I see it there
are three good agent nation designs.

1) +20 Kidnap / Assasinate only
2) 40 Point agents / +20 Scout / Stealth bonus
3) 40 Point agents / Double Scout / 3K other SNA *

* My favoured one here is 40 Point Commanders by the way

All three are solid and it is a question of taste really.
