The critically acclaimed The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the
Ring has become nothing short of a worldwide phenomenon grossing
US$800million worldwide.

It has set landmark records at the Australian Box office, grossing
A$16.7 million in its opening week. Reaching a massive A$11.5million
in only four days, it became the fastest film to pass A$10million, as
well as the fastest film to pass A$15million reaching A$16.7million in
just seven days. It has broken all Australian box office records
including biggest opening day with A$4,166,911million, biggest opening
weekend, biggest opening week and biggest Boxing Day opening.

Co-written and directed by British Academy of Film and Television
(BAFTA) award-winner and Academy Award nominee Peter Jackson (the
Frighteners, Heavenly Creatures), The Lord of the Rings: The
Fellowship of the Ring is based on the first volume of J.R.R.
Tolkien's long revered literary and linguistic masterpiece.

An epic vision of good versus evil, The Lord Of The Rings: The
Fellowship of the Ring recounts the heroic quest of Frodo Baggins
(Elijah Wood), a peaceful Hobbit entrusted with a terrible
responsibility. Accompanied by an assemblage of elves, dwarves,
hobbits, human warriors, and good wizard Gandalf The Grey (Ian
McKellen), Frodo must travel through Middle-earth to the land of
Mordor in order to destroy the omnipotent One Ring in the fires of
Mount Doom where it was forged. Relentlessly pursued by Dark Lord
Sauron's dark riders, marauding Orcs, cave trolls and goblins summoned
by evil wizard Saruman the White (Christopher Lee), the Fellowship
must also resist the ring's limitless powers of corruption.

On August 6th Roadshow Entertainment will unveil the award-winning
theatrical version of the film on VHS and DVD.

The VHS will be presented in 4:3 fullscreen format.
The DVD will be presented in 16:9 widescreen format.

"The utilisation of a simultaneous global release date means that
Australian consumers do not have to wait to own their own copy of The
Lord Of The Rings. The decision to issue two staggered releases will
allow Director Peter Jackson time to finish post-production work on
The Two Towers and The Return of the King, and complete the special

fans of the trilogy" said Chris Chard, Managing Director Roadshow
Entertainment.
