Magazines in North America

We're looking for wargame or RPG/Game mags in the US that we can advertise
in. Any names (and/or contacts) that you guys have got?

Clint

Thanks - any other sources of information or Mags that players feel might
be suitable?

Clint

Clint,
If I may comment, gaming magazines, while they do seek to target an
audience that has affinity for the essence of what you offer, games, also are
consumed and digested by a relatively small niche of the consumer cross profile.
Most people that I have ever met enjoy games of some type. Yet,
simultaneously, most people that I know have never opened a gaming magazine even
once.
These days, Lord of the Rings has been repopularized with the showing
of the Fellowship of the Ring and The Two Towers movies. I suspect that more
people are familiar with the setting for your game, Middle-earth, than with
your niche product, PBM/PBEM games. More people are online today than ever
before, which translates into more people than ever before having access to e-mail.
To the average person you might target this translates into convenience, from
their perspective.
I don't know what your advertising budget is, nor am I going to ask.
Thus, I don't know what publications you might be precluded from advertising
in. Also, while, of course, you would want to maximize your return on
investment, where positive response to your advertising is concerned, I also don't have
any idea what you would consider a successful advertising campaign to be, with
regard to the minimum number of new customers your company would acquire as a
result of the advertising in question.
It is worth noting that many hard-core gamers do not read any gaming
magazines at all. Additionally, if I may ask, what other types of advertising
does your company do?
On a side note, I used to read both Flagship Magazine and Paper
Mayhem, two magazines devoted primarily to play-by-mail gaming. I did not, however,
try most of the games that were advertised in them. Much of the advertising
that was done in those magazines was not done in a particularly effective way, I
feel.
There are other options available to you and your company, Clint. I
don't know you, and I am a relatively recent subscriber to this message forum,
so I don't have a feel for what you might be open to, if for no other reason
than because of lack of familiarity with you and how you look at things of this
nature.
Also, if you prefer discussions of this nature via e-mail, rather than
in a forum, feel free to respond that way. Everyone varies from individual to
individual, in that regard. Knowing how many new players is your target for
this advertising endeavor would be helpful, though.
