sorry.
this thread started off talking about this specific mailing list, and how it
was set up. Since I was talking about mailing lists, I called the title
'mailing list'. Since its not related to any game I didn't include a game
number.
I figured if people only wanted to read stuff on the games that they were
in, they would read the title. Since its not their game, they don't need to
continue. I expected just about everyone to read the first message, read the
context of the letter, and then ignore all following emails if they were not
interested in the debate.
However people still get the email. I felt a little guilty over this, which
is while the thread stopped in the end - I could insult thomas for days.
Its only the GM (and maybe bored people) who I think read every letter (the
GM read it just in case we sneak in a dirty word like 'taxes').
Once again, is this a mailing list for game specific taunts and
communication?
Yes ? Harlequin doesn't supply us with the email addresses of the enemy
side. Since taunts are an useful way to fight a war (mainly to divert
attention, or to mislead the enemy), using the mailing list is the only way
I know to contact the enemy side.
If our example I have 4700 HI on Pelegair, the free have 6200 HI to oppose
me. If you read the taunts you would get the following info
a) I'm attacking them.
b) i'm staying west of the river.
c) 160,000 is bugger all money for a healthy harad
Of course … would I really attack 6200 HI with 4700 HI ? Or plan to move
any surviving (???) army west ?. And even if I was in perfect health, 160
000 is a bit more than what I have in my piggy bank.
Thats why taunts are meant to mislead or divert attention (and i'm not
willing to say what I want to divert attention from).
Does everyone who plays in Harlequine's games have to get
every message for games they're not in?
Yeap. But there are options
a) read the title line. If its not about a game you are in, delete it. I
could have changed the title midway thru, but I felt that
- I didn't want to change the title in case it started a new thread on the
egroup page (if you were reading a earlier message from a few days ago, you
would have read that someone was reading his email messages that way.)
- If you had read the first couple of messages in the thread you would have
worked out it was becoming game specific, and not been surprised. I actually
felt most people would have given up reading, and only those in g34 (mainly
thomas and someone on my side) were going to continue to read.
b) change your option in the egroup page. I think you are on individual
email like me. I'm also on the dungeon world mailing list (the one that
Thomas said was once getting 3000 a month hits). For that I'm on a daily
message, ie only one email per day. If this mailing list become like the
dungeon list, I'm jumping over to daily. Maybe someone has already jumped
over ?
I thought this was a more general list.
You are correct. This is a general middle earth mailing list run by
Harlequin games. Harlequin games doesn't have a more general list, ie for
talking about any of their games. And the players are able to add a more
specific list if they want.
Am I wrong?
No.
Have we taken the DGE/GSI mailing list and recreated into
to mandatory reciept for all mepbm players?
Actually I like the dge site. I log on once a day, select 'posted within the
last day', and check out the titles. I read only those articles whose
subject I'm interested in. The main problem with the Harlequin Games list
(with the options i've selected), is that I get sent the entire subject for
everything that gets posted.
There's got to be a better way?
Maybe you can change your options to one daily email ?
While I could have emailed harlequin direct to ask about this list, I would
have missed Thomas responding (as he wouldn't have read the email). I
actually enjoyed the battle between Thomas and I, but I can understand JMS
frustration. I'll try to keep my taunts to SG brief.
thanks
