This debate was inevitable and perhaps necessary, so
here we go:

will make those rare skills obsolete or redundant.
There's truth to this. As someone who keeps extensive
data on all his games, I appreciate the reward I get
for my work: I can pick out opportunities missed by
someone who just passively receives his pdf.
But as someone who keeps extensive data on all his
games, I can also say that it takes an unnecessary
amount of time. The Mapper program is a gift at that
end.
Who doesn't want more time for gaming? I have a
limited number of hours each week for ME-PBM, and
they're better spent on strategy than on data-entry.
No wonder GSI will not
give the source codes to Harley. They know good and
well that Harley
will
change this game (which we all love) into something
that it is not.
This comment is completely out-of-line. Harley (now
ME-PBM for our purposes) has vastly improved the game,
and to compare them to the abysmal service of GSI is
ludicrous.
Back to the topic at hand,
The whole point of computers in general is to take
away repetitive work
from humans to allow humans to concentrate on the
creativity that they
are best at.
Jason's right. I don't want to win because of my
typing!
ME-PBM is a complex game, and there's still ample
opportunity for lazy players to make dumb mistakes and
oversights, even with a nice map. Now strong players
can spend more time applying their skills and less
time typing.
I do understand the debate -- I'm going to lose a bit
of an edge when everyone has a map like mine. But my
good play results from more than data-entry... doesn't
it?
