A game, still in summer, saw 130,000 food disappear from the
market. 1/2 of that was added to the market via 325's, which
come after buys... Where did it go?
2
Another game just saw over 208,000 food disappear from the
market. This pdf was the 1st of fall...any coincidence?
Second Odd Issue:
At least 3 emails had been sent to MEGames regarding the
first odd market disappearance, the first over a week ago,
and none have been replied to. Are we on vacation? The
turns are due today, and we were really hoping that 10
days notice was enough to get a reply and be able to
formulate our orders taking the new market information into
account. What gives?

This was due to game 39 - where the GM team is playing. Rob unfortunately was ill most of last week so others had to do the work (none of us for this particular game) or look at the query. He's replied to the initial email to the team contact point. Sorry for the delay - an unfortunate side affect of us playing in the game (Rob asked me about the query as a GM for "speed").
Thanks

Game 39 aside, Game 17 just saw the disappearance of
over 200,000 food (and I just say some teammates pdf's,
who 325'd food). This is obviously a common occurance
that doesn't make much sense, at least to me considering
it's Harvest Season. If the program had it's own "natural"
economy running beneath the actions of the 25 players,
how would food disappear at this time? I would expect
a huge surplus NOW, then maybe increasing degradation
during the winter turns. Eh?
Cheers,
Brad

Sounds like it was the usual market "resetting" at the 250k mark, wasn't
it? It's something common, I've seen it a few times in more than one
game already.

I've heard the "resetting" argument, although I think
the "250k mark" might need some rethinking:
game 39 the FP could account for 140,000 food. Do the DS
have over 110,000 food available to sell? EVER ??
game 17 was 6 turns ahead of 39, and food went from
210,000 to 2,000. That's still a lot of food to get to
250,000....

Even if the market starts over at a certain point
(250,000 or whatever), wouldn't prices automatically
go up with only 2,000 food now available instead of the
210,000 the previous turn? No major market movement...

Well, I've seen exactly that happen on 2 games already. When we noticed
the market was over 200k, we stopped seling food and waited for the
reset. Sure enough, the turn food available dropped from almost 250k do
a few thousand, the food price raised, and we wallowed in gold.
Even if my explanation is wrong, things happened like that, even if by
another reason, on more than one ocasion.

Game 34 Turn 9 has currently 291880 food and 281000 last turn.
So 250000 needs to be revised.
I have no problem with GM's playing. We were concerned because
Harly gave us no response to 3 inquiries. Rob being sick would answer
why we got no response, but it left us hanging. Since harly always
gives quick response,in my experience, this was strange. I guess
there needs to be some way for Harly to let us know they can't answer
other than not answering.
I'm sure the GM's know a few tricks and after they pull them we'll
know and have a new tactic for later games. :>) Only problem seems
to be nobody wants to insult the other guy. Us being clients and they
running the game. If this turn is good for us we'll break the ice and
insult,if not we'll humbly keep our mouths shut. Hmmm no way brad and
me have been to quiet for to long.

*** Um it's rare that we have this situation - as shown by the comments about replies. Sorry guys I can't see an easy way. I sometimes get players tell me information that I should not have (specifically in games that I am playing, they inform me of army movements etc). I just block that out. Before players come back and say - that's not possible, you must use that information, I don't. It's quite easy for me to draw the line between GM and player and use information appropriate to each circumstance. So in some circumstances I can look, act and forget if need be but that means more trust from players.

*** I thought we had already done that!

*** We sent some things to the Forum but you ignored us... Note the guys in our team are not such hardened PBMers as you lot and it takes a bit of a kick to get them awake!

*** Just seen the first bit of our turn - the advantages of working in the office where the turn processes - and some things went well and others not so well. Some cheesy luck on your side as normal... But that's to be expected of a decent team...

Cheesy luck? Oh please. Superior strategic assessment
and tactical implementation, I believe. Not that I can
verify, of course, as you sent me my turn email without
the pdf. This is starting to become real work, playing
in this game.
