Market and Service

This is raising more questions than it answers. All sorts of possibilities are aroused. None of them good. It suggests that GMs have knowledge of game mechanics beyond the hoi-poloi. If so, should GMs play this game?

This was due to game 39 - where the GM team is playing. Rob unfortunately
was ill most of last week so others had to do the work (none of us for this
particular game) or look at the query. He's replied to the initial email
to the team contact point. Sorry for the delay - an unfortunate side
affect of us playing in the game (Rob asked me about the query as a GM for
"speed").

Thanks

YES, GM's should play. Its more fun if they DO know a bit extra because if
you beat them, you REALLY get braggin' rights! And if you lose, well, you
can always cry in your beer over the injustices in the world...

Hi,

I'm the captain of the GM team. We've played 2.5 games so far and before each game I made sure that the opposition team captain was entirely happy with the situation and with Rob as a neutral umpire.

Ultimately, you just have to take this sort of thing on trust, don't
you? A malicious GM team could find lots of ways to cheat without
their opponents ever suspecting. But, seriously, what fun would that
be for them?

We've not had any complaints about the team or the handling of the game so far in the ones we played in as a team. In game 16 I hung on as the NM and eventually gave that game up (Arth as well) due to potential conflicts of interest (GMvPlay) and Sam and I did not play in a 1000 game due to players not being happy. Other than that the 15 or so other games we've played in have been fine - we've won some and lost some. (My 1000 record is particularly bad!)

As for knowledge of the game we don't know what the market does. Note if as player we work something out about the game then I think it fair to use that information as players. If you don't want to play against us then don't. There's lots of teams who do - we have two or 3 waiting or interested as it stands!

I am interested in if players think we should play - I have some other opinions about why I think it's right and the what the dangers are but I hope our record shows that we are trustworthy. (Part of the reason the g39 opposition did not get their response was because we are trustworthy). Have you got any information which shows where we are not Ovatha Easterlings?

My thoughts as well. Note we've not acutally played the game very long in comparison to some of the old-timers out there. We're decent players of games though.

If so, should GMs play this game?

It's not a problem, asking the F2F people about Clint's perfomances
at the last Face2face game, and you might not consider it an unfair
advantage

Lots of players who have just a good grasp of the game mechanics as
the GMs, several of the GMs playing also doesn't GM MEPBM, but other
games like Legends (like Sam Roads).

Sam has played a similar amount of ME to me now, although I am passing that soon (too many games!). Ed and Stu play the occasional game. Claire and Helen play the one game for knowledge of a player's perspective. John and Rob don't presently play having grown bored of the game.

Clint

I, for one, would like to play against them. Just like any other player,
they would/do bring something different to look at and learn from. Think of
all the questions they get and all the different communications about
tactics and such. Be interesting to see how they play different situations.

We have only the one team and a few teams desiring to kick our butts as it is... So far 2 wins no losses but 39 looks a much harder nut to crack. (Some of the old team are playing in game 52, me, Sam and a few friends are there). We'll see maybe we can get the win but it's certainly looking hard to do now and the game is in for the long slog. Corsairs are losing ground and will fall in time, North Harad now mostly FP, Dragon Lord having a hard time of it, Mordor safe as houses - but a swop of Eothraim and NG start armies for BS and CL armies, NW is fine - Rhudaur has lost very little, with the WK still hot - probably our best and the FP have run out of puff on the first push. An attack on the Eothraim looks imminent but good use of the Mantel has halted us in some places.

Items - FP have definitely got the advantage there, but we'll see. Militarily we're up relative to the FP at this stage of the game and hordes of dragons are now descending... yum.

Our most fun is in South Gondor land though... yum.

Most of our team are mates from Cardiff, with Sam, Myself, Ed, Stu as well.

Tacticswise I have learnt most from playing with others and chatting at pubmeets/cons/ftfs. It's almost impossible to work out the tactics employed when playing when inputting.

Easiest way is to play in the FTF you get to see how bad we can really be there then...

Nut? Crack? Get yourself some plastique, boy, if you
want to play here...

Understatement of the year. I'd advise you getcherself
back doin' the order entry for the other games, 'cause yer
in'fer a lesson!

Dragon Lord having a hard time of it,

Hmmm. FP human's getting assassinated before turn 10.
Strike up the band! CL and BS starting armies, what with
their 8 MT's to recruit from, agent-ed before turn 10.
"yawn!"....oKAY then...

NW is fine - Rhudaur has lost very little,

have run out of puff on the first push.

Ohhhhh THIS is going to be fun....

An attack on the Eothraim looks imminent

Is the Mantel a bearded female? I'm confused, maybe I'm not
in this one?

Are you sure about this? Descending where, exactly? Hehe

Our most fun is in South Gondor land though... yum.

Eat what you can, it ain't no buffet and the doors are a'closin'.

Most of our team are mates from Cardiff, with Sam,

Cardiff vs Sweden, Denmark, Louisianna, Canada. What is
this, darts?

Brad
the FP court jester who works real hard to vary
"Yes Sir! Right Away Sir!" during team planning sessions.
