ME 49 South Kingdom

Geeesh trying to figure out how to join this Yahoo group thingy was
like being strip searched at the "What wine goes good with Mumakil?"
annual party!!!
Ok ok...now with the royal hoopla stuff...
Greetings to the grand cabal of able bodied sedentarians ruling
nations in game 49!!
Please contact me at buckova@aol.com, NOT any Yahoo address this
thing might show. I will check the messages here periodically, but I
faithfully check my e-mail 4,278 times each day.
I would especially like to hear from my neutral brothers and
sisters and anyone who is in my general area.
          Thanks,
             Jim

greetings.

Who has a list of what troop types are what ?

eq knights with lancers are HC, knights with maces are
LC (thats for the free, not sure about the DS). But
when it comes to the infantry i'm at a complete loss.

I think each race has its own description, but I can't
tell the differerence between
spears/maces/broadswords/etc. I think broadswords
means HI, spears are LI, and maces are MA, but I
wouldn't bet my capital on it (which I think I might
have to).

:frowning:

I suppose I could ask the enemy what they just stomped
my town with, but I don't think they will tell me.

thanks

greetings Clint.

Any chance you (or flagship) could work out the story
with http://www.play-by-mail.com/

its a porno site, not a pbm site.

I think it use to be the people who run dungeon, but
I'm not 100% sure. I'm thinking 'can flagship find out
the operator, then complain to whoever that the
operator isn't running a pbm site, and they would
Flagship (as an internation PBM company) take back the
address ?'

thanks

As you can see, it was registered a few days ago and is for sale. Looking at
the address, Flagship could file a complaint with Bulkregister. However,
this would then have to go through the arbitration process and the courts
and Flagship would have to show that the registrant doesn't have a valid
claim to the domain.

It's obviously been registered for profit (no kidding!), but there's little
we can do about it.

The previous owners were a bit amiss in not maintaining the domain
registration, if there was one.

No, Flagship would have to show that *they* do. Chances are it would never
get to the courts, instead being resolved by the WIPO, who will rule in
favour of whoever holds the relevent trademark, almost without fail.

Unless Flagship have a trademark on 'play-by-mail', and I don't think they
do, I doubt it's going anywhere.

Why bring Flagship into it, anyway? The domain was a global Madhouse,
sort-of-spanning their UK, US, and Oz operations.

AIUI from Steve Tierney's comments in rec.games.pbm, Kerry Harrison (of
Madhouse US) registered it for Madhouse globally, and has now let it slip
for reasons of his own. Madhouse (UK at least) have alternative preferred
domain names and don't much care.

Hope that's shed some light, rather than muddying the waters...

Tim.

I'll look at that site later. It sounds nice.

Since
a) I'm disappointed that play-by-mail.comm is a porno
site.
b) flagship is an international play-by-mail magazine
that has existed for a long time. It doesn't run
games, but puts out a mazagine that talks about pbm
games. It should have more influence over the control
of 'play-by-mail' than harly (which would only be
pushing its own games, not the entire industry).
c) I seem to remember a link between Clint and
Flagship
d) While madhouse controlled the old site, they must
have let it lapse, so I didn't bother asking them to
fix things up.

PBM sites come and go. From the famous (czbach is now
a beer site), to the minor (dynamic games is now
pushing net access). So hassling the old controller
isn't going to do any good.

yeap. I wanted to see the latest with dungeon, and was
'surprised' when I entered.

rec.games.pbm,

another site I should bookmark and see what its like.

I suppose it doesn't hurt madhouse. But I think its a
bad for our industry to have play-by-mail.com to be an
adult site.

While double crossing/killing people/burning cities to
the ground/ and other stuff is typical middle earth
(and generally normal for this pbm game), I do think
looking at a naked person might put us in a bad light.

And that's about the only basis on which Flagship could make a claim. I read
the dispute rules procedure and if it wasn't for the fact that "Play by
Mail" is a generic term rather than a service or trade mark then Flagship
would have a very good case using the "bad faith" and "misleading practice"
clauses of the procedure. Despite that, it's worth our while trying to
persuade Carol to complain to the domain registrar concerned, even if only
to make a point.

I have some friends who work at WIPO (it's just down the road), so I'll ask
them for their opinions on this.

I would so love to see this domain removed from that guy in AM (wherever
that is!) if only to strike a blow against cyber-squatters.

Hi,

I entirely disagree. Just this Saturday, at the Salute convention, we spent
as much time promoting Flagship as Middle Earth, despite the fact that
giving a passer by access to Flagship encourages them to play PBMs other
than Middle Earth.

We run a PBM firm because we love PBM! I started playing 15 years ago with
Starweb, and soon Saturnalia. I liked it so much we bought a franchise (for
100) and Harlequin was born... We didn't make a profit for several years...

Only that we like it and do everything we can to support it. And we live
within 300 miles of Carol and Ken.

Colin and Flagship yes, Flagship and I nope.
