why do you always want to turn everything that Clint does into a negative. I'm sure that whatever "Modernising" or "tinkering" they do will be with the support of the players.
I'm not having a dig at you, it just seems that over the past Year I have been back playing MEPBM you always want to say negative things about what clint is trying to achieve.

One need not look as far away as "coke" to see the
effects of tinkering.
In MEPBM itself, there have been 2 new scenarios, each
HIGHLY anticipated by the player base. The ideas
sounded good at first. 2950: Smaller nations, better
character balance.... 1000: Design your own
nation..... Still 70-80% of games seem to be 1650.

I personally agree with Ed's statement. Mind you, now that Clint holds all the marbles, his clientele has expanded enormously> After all, he is at the end of all the licences of foreign moderator enterprises. As such, he is not only dealing with brits, but now with americans, spanish, italians and like me, brazilians. Therefore, as an international company, I support that it would be wise to research thoroughly about any changes, as minor as they could appear to be.
For example, something i've always supported was the randomization of artifact numbers in the 1650/2950 scenarios, as is done in 4th> Nevertheless, I believe some people wouldn't like this change. So it's up to Clint and his posse =P to weight the effects of any changes, for they WILL BE worldwide. A good start could be a creation of another Yahoo e-mail list, one that should be advertised by Clint AND its licenced moderators, so that ppl around the world would join. After all, u don't see that many italians here, right ? This Yahoo community could be only about changes in the scenarios, and the poles feature could give Clint the statistics backing needed to implement safely any changes....
Hope to have helped,
Rodrigo Maia

Ed, there's a big difference between Coca-Cola and MEPBM games! For a start,
Clint knows most of his customers by name and deals with them directly...
You do have a knack for looking at the dark side of these things, don't you.

So are the various scenarios a good or bad thing then? I only play 2950 and have no interest at all in the blast-a-thon that is 1650. Coke offers many products that are not as widely consumed as Coke itself but it is still profitable to offer them. I only drink Mountain Dew, only one of Coke's many fine products. Yet Coke takes up 70% of the shelf space at the local store.

With that I do agree. There's always going to be a top product. That comment doesn't even apply, unless in spun like this: Since 1650 is ME top game, it should receive extra care when changes are being considered, since it's ME main source of profits...

First i apologize for using the term "communism" . The correct term would be socialism, of course if we're both referring the twentieth century Russia, from 1917 to 1991. Socialism is indeed a great product, dor it is an alternative method of ruling, and even if not applicable, serves to add depth to any political discussion, mundane or philosofical.
About the customers, I do disagree. At first, the population was very supportive and open to an alternative to the war that was depleting their nations. However, failure of the USSR in dealing with their own populace's expectations resulted in growing disgruntlement. Certainly, the "Cold war", added to capitalist propaganda and the negligence of the USSR to certain aspects of wellfare, caused socialism to deteriorate. I do believe that in the long run socialism would collapse, but I also belive that a certain catalyst was poor management of the USSR in internal politics....
So, I do believe communism to be a great product, and i do see soviets of the XX century as clients who lost interest. I meant it as a joke, but felt i had to respond. Let's agree to disagree,
shall we =P ?

I'm not sure that communism qualifies as a "great product" nor that its
"customers" ever had any abiding interest in it. Quite the reverse, in fact.
