ME FTF

Clint/everyone

My one main comment on the game FTF would be to ensure that turns got
processed in a timely fashion much as things run in a normal game. Say one
hour turn around with a chess clock (possibly going over the top a little
here) in the room to try and get the sense of urgency into the turns.
Failure to complete the turn in the time allotted would mean (as it does in
all other games) a SSed turn.

3 months is good. I think that teams should be notified in advance as to
who is in each team and allow each team to decide what position is played
by who (again its what happens in a normal game - excess first turn time
with most people getting the nation they want to play)

It was an enjoyable experience and one every serious ME gamer should try to
experience at least once - unless you are the addictive type that is.....

*** I think the only way to do this would be to push players. This causes tempers to fray (having done this 4/5 times now it can cause a lot of stress and consequently reduce fun when the pressure builds up.) I have seen a couple of the games nearly break up due the pressure. It's a fine line between fast turnaround and. Also drinking slows players down. But as it is a social event as much as anything else for lots of the players who turn up then it's hard to deal with the aspect of having some who want a hard game and some who want a social event. It takes us 3/4s hr to process and print a game - we can't do it faster than that I am afraid. So 3/4s to 1 hour to do turns seems okay. Hence 1 and a 1/2 hours would be what I expect to occur - but sometimes things will slow down. Is that what you mean? The 1st DS team (Andy W etc) all know each other, whereas the FP team had less to chat about inbetween games - there was a difference in emphasis here. Maybe the "random" allocation (similar levels of experience) would work though to re-emphasis the hard-gaming rather than the social aspect? Thoughts welcome.

SSing destroys games in normal stuff so I would be cautious about this. We could try it once off - nation destroying mistakes occurred as it was...

*** Any other thoughts on this? Happy to go with what works. Some players like the tactics working out which can take weeks in normal games but then others like the mad rush.

*** Yep - hard work but great fun.

One thing that we discussed as a team was the possibility of having the
input computers in the team rooms. This would save time rushing back and
forth to get the next turn for input and allow the inputter to still
participate in team discussions. I believe it was a good call to have the
teams input their own orders as it meant ownership of those oh so annoying
little input errors ;-). I suppose the downside on this one is getting the
machines in the upstairs room.

Just a thought - otherwise it was thoroughly enjoyable and I have to take my
hat off to Clint, Sam and co for making it a damn good fun weekend. When's
the next one? (lock me up for my own sanity before answering that one!)

Cheers
