Hey Clint!
This seems like a good time to pop in and say hello to the group.
My name is Bernie Gaider and I'm a Software Engineer working with Agilent Technologies in bright and sunny Colorado Springs, Colorado. I played Middle Earth about 3 or 4 years ago, took a break, and am back playing after dragging some friends in with me. Anyhow, I love some of the new tools such as Palantir, MEOW, and Automagic which were created during my absence. Despite the new tools however, I still felt there was an absence of some really good error checking...we all know how easy it is to make syntax and logical errors when writing our turns. So with the need to learn Java at work, a little ME project seemed to be in order.
The result is the OrderChecker (now at version 1.6). It reads in XML files in a manner similar to Palantir, reads in ME order files (produced via MEOW, AM or elsewhere), and finally reads in the Palantir terrain information (2950.game/1650.game) in order to give the user a list of all their orders and any suspected warnings or errors. It also gives additional information where it makes sense to do so...especially helpful is the verification of army/navy and character movement. Combine all of the above with the ability to copy/paste the results elsewhere and it is also proving to be very helpful at sharing orders with teammates in order to elicit feedback.
Our team (game 235, FP, 2950) has been using the tool for a while and Edward at ME Games has done an outstanding job of doing some testing on it. I believe it is stable enough at this point for more extended use, in effect a limited beta release. Fellow developers such as yourselves are a perfect audience for this so I hope some of you guys are currently playing in 1650/2950 games and are willing to give it a go. Feel free to have your teammates use it with the understanding that it is not yet ready to be shared with the entire community.
You can email me at bernout1@adelphia.net for a copy or you can get it from the guys at ME Games as well.
Thanks!
Bern

We've got some new software that checks the files that AM and MEOW create -
it's simple to use but we need to play test it a little. Anyone
