Announcement: Game 33, the first game of the Flagship Challenge Cup, has just been won by the Sarumen, playing DS, and who defeated Filthy Little Hobbitses, who played the FP. Yeah!

We DS would like to swap notes on this game with the vanquished FP, and hope to hear from you soon. After all, you had enough to say earlier on in the game when you were doing well

Richard.

Team Breakdown. 2/4 founding members doubled their work hours, family tragedy's, etc. 2 of us kept thing running for the last little bit, but you can't run a team under the conditions we were placed.

So we took the opportunity to challenge clint (us 2 playing 6 nations each vs his 12) instead of playing on in the dark in 33. The other guys couldn't find any replacements for us.

Interesting game, would have been an excellent game for a long time if the guys who started it were able to keep it up, alas, life happens.

Brad, have I understood you correctly? You had 4 founder members and took
on two more 'new' players = 6. You lost 2 guys due to real-life issues. I
understand and sympathise with that. But you and the other founder member
then jumped ship to play in a new game, leaving the two 'new' players to
sink or swim by their own devices?

I hope I misunderstood, because if that's what you did, it's appallingly
unethical. That's the kind of behaviour that puts new players off.

It was indeed an interesting, demanding and hard-fought game while it
lasted. My team also lost two players including a founder, and finished
with just four playing 3 nations apiece, which goes to show what you can
achieve when you stick together.

If you found the game interesting, I find it hard to understand why you
baled out to start a new one - unless of course, you realized by then that
the tide had turned and you were going to lose anyway?

Richard D, you most certainly have not understood me correctly. Please
allow for the question to be answered before you barge on ahead into
disparaging presumptions.

2 of the founding members of the FP 33 team, it's best and Leaders,
disappeared in the Early Game. They continued to run their nations, though.
As the quality of TEAM play decreased more and more every turn, it became
too much for those of us who remained. Replacements couldn't be found,
opportunities presented themselves, decisions were made. This game ran
against both the intent and the vision of the originating FP. Every turn
was "I hope we get our team back" and every turn was more disappointment on
disappointment.

It was 4 of us playing 2 nations each and 4 others playing 1 nation each, by
the way. Of those 4 players, none were forthcoming to pick up nations and
neither themselves nor myself were able to find replacements willing to
commit to carrying on the game as it was. "Stick a fork in it" was a
comment that found some support, if I remember correctly.

You most certainly did not play the team that you started the game against.
You did beat the team you were playing though. I won't detract from your
team, and as mine no longer exists, I won't force you to endure and childish
bravado like "We would'a beaten y'all!". It was an even match, a game like
we'd been hoping for. Alas, life goes in different directions sometimes.

Can someone help!

I thought the Horn of Fear in 1650 allowed you to learn Conjure Mounts.. Is
this true or not since I could not this turn with my Mage and it said this
list is lost as the failed message...

Thanks

Thomas

I believe that you need to cast a research artifact spell on it first,
as even though you may know it has access to conjure mounts, your
character doesn't.

At least sometimes, with some artifacts, the secondary powers change from game to game. An example would be artifact #152 which in one game gave access to teleport and in another provided Minor Heal.. Artifacts # 88 and 110 seem to alternate between percieve relations and percieve nation. The mystery and shadow of it all.

RD: Thanks for the enlightenment Brad, and I apologise for and withdraw any
comments I made which were based on an imperfect understanding of what you
wrote.

I am very surprised that you couldn't find replacement players, and that
none of your 4 players playing one nation each wanted to play two; however
I'll stop there before I upset anybody else

It was a good game while it lasted. We DS noticed that your later team play
was not always of the frighteningly efficient - at times seemingly
clairvoyant - standard which you set early on. That's a compliment to your
starting team, not a disparagement of your later one!

Some of my players would like to exchange pdfs with yours - are you and your
team agreeable?

Richard.

You don't "have" to cast Research Arty to use the power that it holds, but
you have to cast Research Arty to know what power it holds...if that's
clear.

RD: I think you are wrong, Dave. If an arti gives conjuring ability, you
don't need to RA first. However the arti in question actually has a RANDOM
secondary power - it isn't always conjuring, altho it seems to be that more
often than not. I have seen it give access to healing spells, for example.
However my answer is the same as the one you gave, altho for different
reason: cast RA on it and see what you get!

Richard.

Did you cast research artifact prior to trying and
access the spell? If not, that could be the problem.
Also, research artifact would tell you if the Horn's
properties have changed.

No I/we didn't.
I don't think players cast RA on Nallagurth to found out
if it gives access to spirit mastery as I have never seen it fail,
when players try to learn those spells.
I just came to that conclusion that it most be error on the website.

I agree.

I can attest first hand from playing the Dwarves in 1650 that the
secondary powers certainly seem to be randomized. Like you I read
Bobbin's and saw that The Horn of Fear had 'Conjure Mounts' as a
secondary power but upon researching the artifact found a secondary
power of 'Conjure Food'. Is the conjuring randomized? The secondary
power? Who knows? But the lesson learned was that certainly the
artifact list from Bobbin's is not gospel.

Greg

At least sometimes, with some artifacts, the secondary powers

change from

game to game. An example would be artifact #152 which in one game

gave

access to teleport and in another provided Minor Heal.. Artifacts

# 88 and

110 seem to alternate between percieve relations and percieve
