MEPBM Advertising

I don't know if any of these pay sited are worthwhile from a cost
effectiveness standpoint but there use to be 50,000 to 100,000 people
that played Everquest.

My 2 coppers.

Everquest, of course, is set in a fantasy setting, something that
Middle-earth is no stranger to. Indeed, Everquest owes much to Tolkien, just as
many modern day extensions of the fantasy setting do.
It is worth taking note of however, that, while Everquest enjoys a
high traffic volume, many of those who play it see more immediate gaming
gratification than the format of MEPBM allows. It is the nature of the respective
beasts, to be sure, but it is worth remaining cognizant of, I feel.

Good feedback - other ideas for advertising very welcome. Our plan for
Mags was to have us and a consortium of 3 other PBM firms buy a 12 issue
slot of adverts. With that we would attempt to get a PBM section for that
period and possibly reviews - hence the players that are new to this gaming
format would be introduced slowly.

A commendable endeavor, but may I ask what other types of advertising
you have tried in the past, and your respective experiences with each?

Flagship (and RIP PaperMayhem) have brought us players but we've pretty
much saturated Flagship.

I haven't seen a copy of Flagship Magazine in many years, so I am not
sure what your ads run in that magazine look like. Do you know the circulation
of the magazine, offhand?

Marketing is not our strongest point so any assistance those in the "know"
would be very welcome.

We do Ebay from time to time.

Print advertising in magazines has its benefits, but like virtually
every medium of advertising, it also has certain inherent drawbacks. I don't
know what your past advertising campaigns have looked like, as far as an overall
or detailed view.
Is your market anyone, or do you wish to target one or more particular
cross segments? Do you have any preferred target geographic regions, or,
again, is the object pretty much to just attract new players from anywhere in the
world? Is your advertising approached as a year to year thing, or as one
continuous, ongoing advertising campaign? Or have you guys really given much
thought to those type of things?
I am not sure what kind of deadline you are working with, if any, but
if interested, and as my spare time allows, I could try to draw something up
for you, as far as possibilities for advertising, and depending on whether you
like it or not, maybe then take things a step further and help you guys
outline a new advertising campaign for the game, if that sort of approach appeals to
you guys. Every company and every business tend to have their own ideas and
approaches to marketing their product. Some prefer to use professional
marketing companies or corporations to market their goods or services, while others
prefer to use in-house staff, while others, still, embrace a wide variety of
approaches to marketing what they have to market.
If you think that you might be interested in such an analysis of
sorts, just let me know.
