It's a "replacement" for Napster, only not only for music, but movies/videos,
t.v. shows, programs, etc.

BearShare is actually one of several "gnutella" based "user interfaces" (others
I know and have tried are Limewire and KaZaa), but BearShare, IMHO, is the
easiest to learn and use.

Just go to BearShare.com for a free download of their software (absolutely
free!).

It's different from Napster in that the "network" is composed of all of the
individual machines that are "connected" at the time. Napster had a "central
server" which was susceptible to being shut down. Now, with gnutella software
around, someone who felt their copyright (or other rights) was being infringed
would have to literally go to each and every computer w/ the software on it and
have it removed/confiscated/whatever. This is what Napster's lawyers tried to
argue (among other things), and now it's here! Variety is quite wide.

Hth.
