If you frequent the MEPBM forums at the halo5.net website, then you may notice
that it is not functioning at the moment. I was a victim of a recent hacker attack
and now the server that hosts the site needs to be wiped and re-loaded. Not to
worry, all of the data is backed up on tape so nothing will be lost. We just have to
suffer through a few hours of downtime.
What would be the purpose of a hacker attack in this case?
I'm not sure I understand the question correctly, but I think you're saying that if the
site is down, then what would be the purpose of a hacker attack? I'm sorry if I
implied this, as I didn't mean to. The server was compromised, and the remedy
was to re-install the server software from scratch and then restore as much data
as possible from tape backup. This is what has caused the forums to be
non-functional. All data was backed up to tape, so I don't expect any posts or
anything will be lost.
If I misunderstood the question, please let me know.
Check out the yahoo news from yesterday, there was some big hacker
competetion going on to see how many systems could be hacked they
crashed many sites not just the Halo site.
What would be the purpose of a hacker attack in this case?
