Message Board and Mailing List

I keep seeing references to the "Deft board". I don't recall ever seeing how
to access it, though... Do we need to be in the Freemasons or something?

Nope, that doesn't help.

Middle Earth PBM List - Harlequin Games
To Unsubscribe:www.onelist.com

RD: Just did that, and I have to say I am impressed. ALL 'old' Harlequin
players, used to the mepbmlist, should check it out before condemning it.

It's organised. You want info on 1650 games, you click 1650. You want
4thAge, click 4th Age. It really is that simple.

I'm a technological neanderthal, so if I can do it, a monkey can.

I would rather have something like this than chucking everything into an
'open' pbm list where you have to fish thru a whole load of soup before you
find a piece of meat.

I think Harlequin should run both systems side by side for a while, to give
everyone a fair shot at trying both, and take a poll after (say) 6 months.

Regards,

Richard.

Yep sounds fine - personally I found the 3 lists not very as useful as the
thread capability. Seeing the same question asked in a number of lists over
time when they could go into one was not the best for me.

I ask that you give my message board a shot, I think you'll like it
even better then the old deft boards.

http://pub31.ezboard.com/bmiddleearthpbmmessageboards11414

In the end there will be a message board. The players who are use to
and like using one will continue to do so. The only question is
where. Will Harlequinn choose to maintain and pay for their own or
will it be a player run situation. Until they decide I shall plug
away since I think my board is the best.

Yes Richard, you should look, and you will find it better.

I was interested to read this morning (sorry I forget from whom) about
the anonymous flaming on the Deft board. I DO NOT like the idea of
that. What constitutes a "flame" is relative, but I despise anyone who
does not have the courage to put his name to his words.

So Facade, is your board any less vulnerable to the anonymous coward, or
is access the same as for the Deft boards?

Harlequin - there seems now to be a virtual consensus that we keep the
list and one of the boards. So NOW is the time to do your little poll
the question should be something like:

"We are keeping the MEPBM list, and will support one message board.
Please look at the Deft and Facade boards and say which format you
prefer:
0 Deft
0 Facade"

Alternatively, you could just jump to the result - scrap the Deft board,
and direct all the board enthusiasts to facade. NOBODY as far as I know
has argued here for the Deft board as better than the Facade board.

Personally, I think whichever board will fade away, but give a dog its
day...

Laurence G. Tilley

Since this is the internet stopping anonymous flames is mostly
impossible. There are steps one can take to lesson them. Accepting
posts from registered folks only, banning users, banning IP addresses
etc.. But for every method there is a way around it for the truly
serious jerk. The best method is to have active moderators who
quickly delete such posts, something the deft boards currently lack.
Folks who cause trouble like to get a response, when they don't they
tend to move on. I personally don't have a big problem with
annonymous posts as long as they don't really cross the line. I find,
for the most part, the M-e gaming community is pretty well behaved.
And I haven't seen any big problems... but I also have not read every
single post ever made to the deft boards either.

Actually a poll is taking place in this very mailing list. But only
20 persons have actually voted at this point :-((

Yes, I know. Only 20 persons voted, because it was a daft question.
Now that the issues have been discussed, and there seems to be a
consensus on keeping the list AND one of the boards, I am suggesting
that a better poll be initiated.

RD: I clicked on this and it looked promising but then I was asked for a
password. Not having a password (it being my first time)I invented one. It
was rejected. I then followed the 'Forgot your password?' path until it
told me to wait 10 minutes.

Dunno about the rest of you, but I'm not prepared to wait 10 minutes.

The whole reason I am looking at alternatives to the mepbm list is to speed
the flow of of relevant info up, not slow it down.

As a technological neanderthal, I've probably missed something. If you can
tell a newbie how to access facade FAST I'll happily give it another go.

Richard.

All that means is you need a 'general comments & questions' board, in
addition to the 'age-specific' ones. I still think the message board
format beats the email list for ease of browsing alone.

The password request is for logging in and using your registered
name. Without registering first offering up a password does nothing
but waste your time. You can post without registering and to do so
you simply ignore the line requesting a password. If you do register
then your browser will remember via cookies your name and password so
you won't need enter it again constantly. Assuming of course you
aren't using a browser from the 80's.
