I really don't see what the problem is. I have a delete feature on
my
computer. Perhaps others don't. I just had 60 e-mails come in,
most of
them from the list. A lot of them say "Digest 360" "Deft player
accounts" "Scandinavian Pubmeet". None of these are relevant to me,
so
I just click delete, delete, delete. And read those which do have a
subject line of interest to me. It takes a few seconds to delete
all of
the irrelevant mails.
...if you attend to it daily. If not it generates a lot of clutter.
Basically, I find the egroups threading software to be poor. I
resist having to do things manually that can easily be done with
the proper software. If I can view the list on the web and
messages can be placed in folders, I don't *have* to do anything but
click on the threads I'm interested in.
Also, I don't know if folks realize that egroups has been bought out
by Yahoo and there have been warnings on other lists that Yahoo may
make some changes that disrupt things; I can dig these up if folks are
interested in them.
I do like the absence of outside agitators and anonymous flames on an
email list. IMO folks can say whatever they like if they are willing
to stand behind their words, but we have ample evidence on the
middle-earth boards that anonymous messages rarely do good and
frequently generate a lot of nasty feelings.
I think the ideal solution would be an email list for announcements
and overall discussions of game strategy, and a registration-required
message board for specific games with folders for each game.

My only gripe is with the dozy few who change the substantially
change
the subject of a thread, without changing the subject line to
reflect
···
it.
