There is a potential to keep the current Deft boards
operational. Players have taken their own initiative
on this.
facade has also taken the initiative to have a seperate
company host new message boards, free of cost (with
banner ads...)
I believe that this shows the spirit of our players and
a willingness to put some effort into making the New
World work better, instead of sitting back and
complaining (considering WE are the ones who have to do
the changing here, I think kudos all around....).
I would assume that Harlequin can now focus their
efforts entirely on the smooth transition, and not have
to worry about these changes. Players like myself who
want to be on top of it ALL can sign up for the list,
and also peruse the board (-s-?).
Also, I am assuming that regular 1 week games will be
offered AND filled. Once the set ups go out, the
allegiance email addresses are distributed, and the
individual players invest as much time as they care to
to communicate. While not as "perfect" as team games,
I personally prefer the unknown....more realistic. I
have played 1 week games where allegiances have
collapsed due to personality conflicts between the
nation leaders.........I would assume that these things
can happen in such a world as Middle Earth, no? Better
than expensive and complicated checkers........where's
the fun in that........??

Yep - my personal preference is to have one board/list/whatever you want to
call it. Having 3 b/l/w will cause some confusion - I would like to get an
officially sanctioned one and then if others want more then we can with
that - and attempt to support it as best we can.
As for one week games - we'll be looking through all the various styles of
games and see what we can offer.

RD: In theory, one list is a great idea. The problem is that with the
increased player base, readers are going to have to trawl thru a huge number
of emails for the ones they want. Today, for example, I had 30 emails, only
2 of which were about games I'm playing. It's time-consuming to zap or
transfer all the others, time which would be better spent on the game with a
deadline 2 days hence!
So, if you can come up with a better system, whether it means more than one
list or not, let's see it!
Regards,
Richard.

I think I like the idea of one board/list but like you said it might get a
little hectic. Supporting 3 boards is going to be difficult for us (ie
posting to all, reading the messages etc.) From what I saw of the facade
board it was very much like the DGE board but better.
So I guess the board might be the best place for in-game messages, and the
mepbmlist for messages about the games- information and easy access? I'll
wait to get some feedback from the DGE list and see what happens there when
things get moving properly.

Now *that* would be a good poll question. Maybe a free turn or two for
whoever is nearest?
RD: I'm talking 30 emails in ONE DAY. Today it's 48! Where will it end?
If you away for 'less than a week' you must expect your inbox to be
overflowing when you come back.
This is exactly my point: there is now too much traffic on the mepbmlist for
me (and I suspect many other players) to handle comfortably.
I'm beginning to think about unsubscribing. Sure I'll miss some interesting
debates amongst the dross, but at least I'll be able to concentrate on the
games I'm actaully playing.
Regards,
Richard.

Gavin
RD: Good idea Gavin... that's all the mepbmlist, all the game turns and
individual queries over 7 days (of course the exact number depends on WHICH
7 days we're talking about) but I can't see it being much less than 500,
probably more. 575?

Richard.

Actually, most of it *wasn't* MEPBM stuff! However, having had it pointed
out that we can change the option to "digest", I may well do so... (Of
course, then you have to burst it, so no real gain there then.)
