Middle Earth automated announcements

I figured I would post this here instead of ME Games getting a ton
of individual emails if this is happening to everyone.

ME, I've gotten a few messages now about "you haven't played ME in a
while!" and "You haven't played grudge in a while!" and "I see that
one of your games is over (Game 23), join another!"

I assume since this is the first time I've seen these there will be
phase where you work out the bugs? Because I'm in 4 games right
now, 2 of which are grudge, and Game 23 is on turn 2.

JB

Hi All,

I just wanted to let everyone know that we are aware that there are problems with the emails we are sending out and we are doing our best to get to the bottom of this. We know that the messages many of you are getting were sent to you in error and we will do our utmost to correct the problem. The emails have stopped going out whilst we work on a solution. Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience this may have caused and please bear with us as we work to correct the problem. Feel free to get in touch if you have any questions.

Good Gaming,
Stuart

Thanks Stu, just got into work.

Big apologies for getting emails in error. We've worked out what some of the problems are, mainly looks to be one error where we looked at old data for players and not removed the new or current players from that information (so the messages saying you're not playing are incorrect!). Some of the other errors are just, well wacky, and we can't work them out.

Thanks for taking this all in good spirit and once again apologies

Generally players won't be emailed if they're presently playing a game. We rarely contact players asking if they want to play another game (for instance we know that some players are interested in some unusual formats of games so we occasionally contact them if a new format comes up).

Is that the sort of thing you'd like to be removed from?

On the Forum, page two of the game 76 thread, is the start of a discussion about espionage in Middle Earth. If interested, feel free to comment.
Ed Mills

By "espionage", Ed means real life espionage that affects the game. The accusation for the game in question is that the DS got onto and followed the FP yahoogroup, having access to likely most/all team emails and files.

Ed, since you brought it up here, I only thought it would be prudent to fill in these readers with the details of the issue, as many do/will not visit the Forum to read about it.

I have no personal opinion about this issue, don't understand it, frankly...

Turned to the PRS to research a current opponent and noticed it was more than two months out of date. What's up? When the PRS was proposed I asserted it would be a self-inflicted administrative burden on The Company. However, I was assured that it would only take a brief amount of time and resources to keep track of.

No I think Ed means the email I also received from Harley today,

" Dear player we noticed it has been 5 years since you played Battle
of the five armies, you posted your last turn 19/05/05. Are you not
interrested in playing in a new game"

And I send in my last turn this week and I am plaing in two games, I
believe it is similar with Ed, he is activly playing and Harley sends
an email saying he does not.

Advertising works. Ever get a call from your credit card company asking if you'd like a special insurance product? You're an active customer, using your product, and they want more out of you. Of 100 people "marketted to" (read: spammed if you insist), X take it, Y say "No thank you" politely, Z rant and rave, but don't actually do anything about it themselves, Q take the appropriate actions to remove themselves from the calling/emailing lists, etc.

Interesting Martin's email below, if that's a copy/paste quote, is so totally different from mine. Mine looked like an automatically generated email, very friendly and generic "You've played XXX in the past...would you like to again...". I'm surprised Clint et al have the time to customize these for their 700 or so email addresses on file.

I apologize if I'm offending anyone, my whole point is "Why is anyone offended?" when Delete isn't too far for the mouse to travel.

It's SO much more than just clicking delete. You can't just delete whole
swaths of stuff without at least glancing through it to find the actual
(pertinent) E-Mails. Sorting through everything so you only delete crap
takes time. The more spam, the more time it takes.

Brad

I'm a snotty spoilt brat. Yahoo's new Bulk mail filtering system allows me to simply empty my "Bulk" box whenever I bother, only about 5-10 messages a week get through to my Inbox, so I no longer live with this concern. But even then, it's MEPBM email, so it's interesting at least when you open it before the letdown, no..?? Besides, the screen shot included reminded me to check for updates to the new Mapper program, so thanks for that Spam MEGames, I'm not sending you any more money, though..

I didn't consider it Spam, as I'm prepared to receive a limited amount of
potential advertising from companies I regularly do business with. It did
strike me as crude and inaccurate targeting though - mine was suggesting I
play Gunboat!!! Attempting to sell bikes to fish would be a better idea.

Ditto. No problems whatsoever with spam on Yahoo.
Bulk mail = crap I don`t need to look at.

I'm a snotty spoilt brat. Yahoo's new Bulk mail
filtering system allows me to simply empty my "Bulk"
box whenever I bother, only about 5-10 messages a
week get through to my Inbox, so I no longer live
with this concern. But even then, it's MEPBM email,
so it's interesting at least when you open it before
the letdown, no..?? Besides, the screen shot
included reminded me to check for updates to the new
Mapper program, so thanks for that Spam MEGames, I'm
not sending you any more money, though..

I think I need to play more gunboat then. <g> Hey Richard, I saw that you are/were in game 59 which is on its last turn. I know we can't talk about it yet, but I'm dying to know which positions you originally had, and chat about it. Anyone else in that game too; maybe start a forum thread to discuss it.
Drew

RD: You shouldn't knock it till you've tried it.

At least in Gunboat you can't upset your team-mates by what you say to them!

Richard.
