Advertising works. Ever get a call from your credit card company asking if you'd like a special insurance product? You're an active customer, using your product, and they want more out of you. Of 100 people "marketted to" (read: spammed if you insist), X take it, Y say "No thank you" politely, Z rant and rave, but don't actually do anything about it themselves, Q take the appropriate actions to remove themselves from the calling/emailing lists, etc.
Interesting Martin's email below, if that's a copy/paste quote, is so totally different from mine. Mine looked like an automatically generated email, very friendly and generic "You've played XXX in the past...would you like to again...". I'm surprised Clint et al have the time to customize these for their 700 or so email addresses on file.
I apologize if I'm offending anyone, my whole point is "Why is anyone offended?" when Delete isn't too far for the mouse to travel.

No I think Ed means the email I also received from Harley today,
" Dear player we noticed it has been 5 years since you played Battle
of the five armies, you posted your last turn 19/05/05. Are you not
interrested in playing in a new game"
And I send in my last turn this week and I am plaing in two games, I
believe it is similar with Ed, he is activly playing and Harley sends
an email saying he does not.

Unless he's referring to the "remortgage your home" and "bankrupt

And that's really easy for Clint to fix. Other lists require the
first post
from a new member or account to be moderated. Since spam is
automated, the
spam is effectively blocked as Clint would not authorise the
account to post
unmoderated and spammers can't be bothered checking back.
Ed: spam is a fact of life, unfortunately. Deal with it, dude.
