I have been playing MEPBM 1650 since game 90 in the GSI version. I
have also play 2950 in game 15 and 17. My proposed changes are can be
considered on two levels. The first which is characted tweaks will be
in this post. The other is military tweaks. I might save that for
later.
Given an open license for change, I see Harlequin could make several
changes. Much of the games background is from ICE Middle-Earth RPG.
Over the past several years I have aquired vast amounts of the
products and have seen where GSI got its starting information on
characters. Looking over the various bonuses in the game that
characters should be able to get, I feel that packages of these
abilities might add more character depth to the game.
Let's start with the woodmen. The poor boy's of free. The first three
woodmen are beornlings. Instead of just getting stealth they should
aoutmatically get double healing, personal combat bonus and a second
statistic if named as a single skill character. Imagine Bornbeneor as
a 30 co, 10 ag with +20 or +15 personal challege, 15 stealth and
double healing. He would be a rough character worth alot. With the new
named characters, make it a chance that the new character is a
beornling. Imagine naming a 30 agent, that now may get 10 mage, 15
stealth, double healing, and +15 close combat. Another badass. The
program could limit the number of beornlings to 3 at start plus 7 more
over the games length to balance off potential lunk pulls by the
woodmen. The position would now be desired far more.
The sinda and noldo
All elves should have stealth. If the cost to aquire and maintain are
raised, it would balance the stealth out. The stealt needs to be
divided into 3 levels. 15 for silvan, 20 for sinda, and 25 for noldo.
Changes to the initial setups are as follows. Noldo are Elrond,
Elrohir, Elladan, Erestor, Glorfindel, and Gildor plus Ringlin of the
Sinda postition is Noldo . Sinda are Gaerdae and Cirdan of the Noldo
Elf position, Thranduil, Tharudan, Taurnil, Ohtar, and Lanthir. Amroth
and Nimrodel are silvan. All new elves should be assumed to be silvan.
Each race could have a chance that the new character is either Noldo
or Silvan.
The three Dudedain positions of North Gondor, South Gondor, and
Arthedain should have a chance to name a pure blood Dunedain. That
character should get 10 extra skill points in secondary skill
automatically. South Gondorians should also have a chance at 10
stealth as a half-elven mix. This order could be accomplished as
either 15000 gp purchase or a greater chance of naming instance. The
Rhudaur and Cardolan should have a lesser chance but still a chance to
do this.
As for the evils there are several changes they could get. If the
potential human stealth were cut back to 10, have all Cloud Lord
agents get 10 stealth. Evils should be able to have trolls as
characters. Give them +20 personal challenge rank and double healing.
Make the evils pay less for orcs in the maintainence department say
only 10 per skill point. Let the evils have a chance to get werewolves
like Guahir be named as alternate character types.
This is all off my initial babbling on characters. Now I will name
specific examples that should be changed.
Arudagel is listed as an experiment of crossing a bear with a
beorniling. He should have double healing, +20 challenge and 10
stealth.
Celedring is a noldo he should have 25 stealth.
Feagwaith is listed as an Undead ringwight similar to Din Ohtar. He
should have 30 stealth.
Gothmog, Hargrog, Rogrog, and Hukor are trolls. Give them the
abilities above. Several others are also trolls. will have to track
them down.
All of the Eothraim horselords have at least 40 skill points.
Finally most of the at start characters have artifact. Give more out.
