Just saying that you might not get what you want from it. If the intention
is to annoy the opposition then I know that you are successful there and a
reputation is being built up for you.
If you want players to side with you then enticing them and using nicer
language does work. Like I said if you enjoy playing in the manner that you
do then that's fine with us. If you find yourself getting frustrated at
lack of help, or Neutrals turning against you then you might want to
consider changing your diplomatic style (I have had to do that in the past
myself btw.)

Just saying <snip>
Oh yeah? You, as such an optimist then Clint, appear to be the guy who
should be writing the article;-)
Personally, I've given up with neutrals. Nice or nasty, they tend to do
what they want. You get the odd merchant who can be bribed with
artefacts, a large minority who have fixed ideas about which way a
certain neutral "ought" to declare, and the rest - the "balanced game"
fraternity. With them, the more you impress them with your team's
achievements, the more likely they are to come and "ave a go" at you.
So send em some news every turn, and leave it at that.
Then when I play a neutral, someone usually comes to give me a kicking.
But before the wits emerge in their hordes, to tell me that I should be
drawing a lesson from that, I have to tell you that it is because you've
stuck me in another game with a load of newbies again. None of them
know me from Adam, but most of them think that smacking a neutral sounds
like fun!

Sorry too obscure for me. Could mean anything.
Personally, I've given up with neutrals. Nice or nasty, they tend to do
what they want.
** Some are like that I concur. Generally players play Neutrals so that
they can indeed do what they want. I think it's part of the reason players
play Neutrals in FA.

** Very true.
Then when I play a neutral, someone usually comes to give me a kicking.
*** Depends on how you deal with them I find as well. If there is the
"You've annoyed me so I can take my revenge).
But before the wits emerge in their hordes, to tell me that I should be
drawing a lesson from that, I have to tell you that it is because you've
stuck me in another game with a load of newbies again.
**** Some are new some ain't. What do you want me to do? Grudge Game seems
what you want but I haven't heard you specify this in a request to me.
Psychic Gm time again...
None of them
know me from Adam, but most of them think that smacking a neutral sounds
like fun!
*** Yes some like that sort of thing but they are generally penalising
themselves. But with the high level of Neutrals placing in the top 3 power
positions can be targets. As to waht to do about it - not sure.

Oh I see, your comment was supposed to be directed singly at Bruce. No
hope, he's beyond redemption. Some play for victory, some for dynamic
team play, some for intellectual stimulation. Bruce just likes lots of

We try to cater for all types - and if players enjoy this style then that's
fine with us.

OK next time I want nice guys who don't attack neutrals on turn 2 OK?
Actually, I really don't like the term "grudge games". I know you're
just dying to know why. Here's why:
1) it seems to have crossed the Atlantic the wrong way, and apart from
MacDonalds, Buffy and your polite colleague, I know of few other such
movements which have been beneficial. (OK, I acknowledge the
contribution of the GIs, but they had the good manners to go back again
afterwards)*
2) different people seem to use it to mean slightly different things
particularly team games, return games, games following a loss, games not
necessarily following a loss.
3) "grudge" in English implies some sort of acrimony. Gentlemen have a
"return match" when they've been beaten and want an honourable second
chance to play again against the same opposition.
4) I keep hearing of things like "Grudge match team looking for
opposition". Well what the devil does that mean? Have they got a
grudge against the whole world or something?
5) A team game as far as I'm concerned, is when a team or pair of teams
have organised themselves before the game is set up. Not necessarily
any grudges involved.
So I'm not asking for a GM ruling on terminology, or that our American
friends should change their ways. But please, translate for me, when
you advertise games
* OK and Star Trek and Coca Cola and the nice shiny dollar 2000 coin
that someone sent me last week...

That'w why it is defined as a Grudge Game. Team games are games where
people join up with their friends, specifically to play together but can't
make a full Grudge game. As more than half our players are not British then
some leeway has to be given to the different cultures. I will still write
Cheque the English (UK) way rather than Check English (American)
4) I keep hearing of things like "Grudge match team looking for

*** This is not accurate. Grudge = 10 or 12 players. Team is upto 5.
Easy.
No grudges involved although I concur a better term could have been used.
But like we are stuck with Allsorts Due Date one day before the day we
process this is something that I think we'll stick with. Not a hard one at
all.
