Dear Din,

Thanks for a great example of how orders get messed up.

I think the answer to the question you were trying to ask is that the NUMBER
is the default whenever there's a conflict between the number and the words
(unless the other makes more sense, but that's strictly at the GM's
discretion).
i.e. 947 TranCar xxxx xxxx gold 10000 MAY be input as a TranCar because
an origin and destiantion hex are specified.

been there, done that.

I do know that its the NUMBER that is used (for the
obvious reason that i'm been caught before).

My question was more along the lines of intent.

In the wrong order '520 infothr', I believe its more
likely I've typed in a 0 instead of a 5. As against
typing in 'othr' instead of 'your'.

The other thing is that the 'your' orders needs to be
done on your pop centre, and the 'othr' order is done
on the enemy. I think most people would know if their
emissaries start on a pop centre of their own, or on
an enemy. So when typing out their orders, they
should be able to say 'wait a minute, i'm on one of my
own pop centres, I wouldn't be doing infothr'. Whereas
typing a '5' instead of a '0' is more likely
(especially when your emissary company just liberated
an enemy m/t).

I think the numbers are accepted since this is what is
entered in harly's computer (and the code is
rejected).

I just need to take more care next time

Usually with 947 orders being confused with 948 orders we can work out what
the player actually wanted and sort it out appropriately.

Um it could well be that the code is more clearly the intent. But then
again we get lots of players cut and paste, leave parts of orders from last
time etc. So we have to second guess things quite a lot (part of the reason
we play so that we are better at such things) - we can't always get that
right I am afraid, and if then the argument is put forward that we should
correct our "correction" then we get into a whole load of trouble...

thats because i think its easy to work out what was
wanted (as the two codes have different number of
parameters ).

its the infyour/infothr that can't be told apart
without checking. And that takes a fair amount of
time.

I always assumed that only the number was entered, as
the programmers would be too lazy to require two
fields to be entered (and then check the code and
number are the same), if only one could be used.

sorry - not lazy code, merely more efficient code

lazy would be not checking that the code entered is
not a valid number.

Why type the codes at all? Haven't you got it all written down a
few times, and then re-read your email a couple more? I mean, why
pay money to go "oops" to your team?

example:

MARAH
520
947 - 2225, MO, 50

All the rest of the information, as far as I've been able to tell,
is there to make it easier for the Player, not necessary for the
company. Keeping it simple reduces the potential for situations
to occur where you are motivated to send Clint hate-mail...I was
assuming this is why he posted in the first place...???

Too much information does clutter the turnsheet so you end up reading:

ORDER 1>>>**** Fred the Fearless my best commander 4231 Com34 Ag23 St10 Army
does a n 810 Move Character Movement Order, Miscellaneous

Then when that gets almgamated with the next 3 orders due to the wonders of
formatting and the internet you can see how that can get confusing.

Fred @4231
810 2423
948 4133 2134 mo 100

Much easier for us to read.

MARAH

Not so much the tone of emails, rather then problems for all concerned
(player and GM) that can occur.

I do mine like this:

Bob (ID: bob ) @ 0666 Command Mage Emissary Agent God
Order1: 610
Code: GrdChar
Type: AGE
Required: Gandalf

Order2: 925
Code: Recon
Type: MISC
Required:

Which is basically just a copy of how the paper turnsheet looks.

Oystein

Yes harder to read for us. we don't need "Order 1" etc.

I use a homemade Excel file that uses a worksheet which automatically puts in the

Hi all,

I took a look at my frontsheet (to see how many turn's fees I had
on hand). I noticed one of my team mate's address and phone
number was listed, but none of the others - not even mine
(of course, mine appears in the larger block up top).

Is there something special I need to submit to make my information
available to my team rather than "Withheld" ? In case of emergency,
is all. Of course I can send my info to everyone, but ...

Just curious.

Eric

me@middleEarthgames.com please I know you sent me some stuff but I have put
that on the back burner and this reminded me. We're chatting to people
about improving the look/help features of the game at present.

Yes check out the first turn in a new game you get - last page. If you want
us to send out specific information (ie one of the withheld bits) then we
can send that out if you give us permission. Email addresses are sent out
with the game nothing else as default.

Subject: [mepbmlist] Frontsheet Question

Eric

Hi Mike,

Sounds like good stuff! Are you willing to share?

ditletang(at)canada.com (so yahoo doesn't hide it).

I'd appreciate looking it all over, if you have time!

Many thanks,

Brad Brunet

I thought I had sent you a copy. I know I sent the smaller

(file size) .gif map, and

possibly the Excel nation setup file. Maybe I didn't send the turn

assist Excel file

to you. You're welcome to look at it, if you like. Let me know which

address to send

it to.

-Yes we're hoping to do something similar eventually. Is this on

offer?

reminds me of
