Moderation

Just to clarify and to test the moderation annoucement. It will work in the same way as the yahoo group list now, i.e. posts won’t appear immediately anymore and will only appear after you’ve read the post to check if I put my real name in it ?

I’ve been slightly out of sync, what specific incidents of abuse of the forum are referring too ?

Cheers

Correct

Clint,

please reconsider your move to moderate this list. It’s ever so much better than the Yahoo group BECAUSE it’s not moderated.
I don’t believe you’re doing ME Games or the players a service by moderating the list. You’re adding workload and you’re taking away the one free-from-moderation forum.

I partially understand the reasons for moderation, but I dislike it and do not think anything I have read, and I have read everything on the heated PRS threads, warrants this reaction.

PS: partially worried this may not appear
:frowning:

 Thought this might get a reaction.

I am happy to reconsider my actions here.

I don’t think it is necessarily better because of moderation but it does certainly change the format.

I think I will instigate rules though about posting - basically be civil. With that in mind I am pondering what action to take instead. Thoughts welcome - even if it’s “butt out GM boy”

Clint

Clint,

You’ve got to be joking. We’re all adults here, even if we don’t act like it at times. No need to be big brother.

  • Ben

I like the concept of “rules about posting” even worse than moderation. Simple leave it alone barring exceptional circumstances.

Brad

Yeah, I haven’t seen any deaththreats on here yet. I wouldn’t worry about us calling each other dumb@$$ or jerk or whatever. We do that privately in email all the time! And boy, you think it gets nasty here . . .

-Russ

Clint,

OK I’ll say it. GM Boys butt out.

No seriously are you going to monitor the internal messages as well. If I want to “have a go at someone” and know you are monitoring the postings I will send them a message to their log on name.

As for not using your real name whats the problem. OK if your hiding behind it to insult somebody then fine it should be stopped but what if you want to play without past game history getting in the way. Why not use an alias?
You already have your rule that you don’t respond unless the real name is used and that is fine for general threads (such as PRS) but not for in game banter!

If you are worried that people are going over the line in insults then let people complain to you. Anyone can report a posting to the moderator just make it clear to people (who may not be fully PC literate) how to do this. If you agree with the compaint take it up with the player concerned. Warn them and if they repeat take action. In the old days of post you couldn’t intercept that, nor can you intercept e-mails so why try on the message board.

So in short don’t enforce a police/nanny state. Treat us like adults and most will behave like that. Treat us like kids and we will also behave like kids. (Fact of man management).

Deal with YOUR responsibilities which are complaints and let us deal with ours and act reasonably.

Cheers
John S

PS first time I’ve posted on a general subject so just goes to show that I rearly think you are proposing to cross the line here.

I think it’s an awful decision and I still don’t know which incident provoked such a decision. Was it the PRS thread ? I’ve read and to me it’s just hangbags at 50 yards…

The reason I hate the moderation is the delaying in posts appearing on the forum. It’s a big advantage of forums over the yahoo list is that discussions are all grouped so it’s alot easier to following discussions from the beginning to the finish. With the yahoo list I find it all over the place…but then I access via the yahoo site and not with mails into my inbox.

By delaying posts appearing on the forum, it has the potential to cause choas as people may start several threads on the same subject (because they won’t have seen someone else had started the same thread because of the delay in posts appearing…and then you need to start following several threads. Choas and the advantage of the forums is lost.

The rules of conduct is grand and how a million other forums on the net operate. If someone violates the rules then close the thread and issue a warning to the offending parties. If it occurs again then block their account for a while Darrell was already doing this system of moderation anyway and it was working quite well imho.

No need to change it.

Cheers
Brendan

I really don’t think moderation of postings is a good idea barring of course excessive profanity or lengthy discussions of one’s mother and there was already a system in place for that…first it’s offensive speach…next it will be senseless speach <and I like being able to post>…and before you know it it will be the voice of the minority opinion speach…I do however think that differences in opinions leading to personal attacks in the forum wil cause grudges amoung players that will be difficult to dispell later and that the players should be smart enough to avoid taking these things to a personal level…lets regulate ourselves gentlemen <belch>…steve caskey

I have to agree with Ben.

>>>>We’re all adults here, even if we don’t act like it at times.

We can all say things that can upset others, even if it is unintentional.

If that is the case then, users have the choice to not read any further.

If people are intentionally abusive and putting up posts of questionable behaviour, then block their access or remove their account.

Don’t treat us all like naughty school kids who need detention.

Leave it unmoderated, I’m sure that we would all let you know if others step over the line.

Dave Pearson

Clint,

I believe everyone will agree that your contribution as a GM and player are very welcome, and all reasonable members will appreciate the time and effort you put into answering polite and impolite posts alike, so don’t “butt out” either. But like almost everyone else who has aired their views on this topic I believe the board should be un-moderated and continue as previous.

If people let themselves down by verbally abusing others, being rude, discourteous or arrogant, then we all learn more about them, if it gets out of hand then warn and delete the thread.

Paul Young

Thanks for all the well reasoned and thought out arguments as well as all the feedback. Much appreciated. As requested I’ve now returned to normal service and you can post to your heart’s content. Don’t forget, please keep it civil.

Have fun and help make it fun for others,

Hey, if someone sucks I’m going to let them and everyone else know about it, and why.
