Except that it didn't work.
In your example, I got a link with the " 49.htm" outside the link.
No different than without the <>.
Outlook seems to not care that the link is inclosed in <> and breaks on
whitespace anyway.

Not sure how many know this. If you put URLs with spaces inside a set of
tag markers ("<" and ">"), then the browsers will see them correctly. Like
this:
